Basically a chronic inflammation - it's a big long phrase. I'll have to listen to the message again a few times to write it all down and figure out exactly what it is. Dr. Weigt wants to put him on oral steroids, but Blitz gets UTI's on steroids and urinates in the house, despite having a dog door available. I guess we can put him on antibiotics as a prophylactic measure.... Dunno. I need to call her back tomorrow morning, and Dr. Patty also, and figure out what to do.

I suppose topicals wouldn't do enough, or strong enuf ones couldn't be used that close to the eye?

Hope something can be worked out to take that down a bit without giving him other uncomfy symptoms.

We had him on an ointment with dexamethasone in it, and we're currently on prednisolone eyedrops... I don't know that there is anything else that can be used.

I'm waiting until 10 to call Patty since I don't know her work schedule this week, then I'll call Dr. Weigt. I did look up what he has in the Veterinary Consult book, and oral prednisone is the only recommended treatment, unless it doesn't work, then they suggest adding azathioprine, which we know he does not do well on. *sigh*

Poor Blitz! :getwell:dogcookie Sending get well wishes to him. That does look sore, poor baby.

That's good he's on prednisilone,it's a good eyedrop, but it does take time to become and remain effective. It may be needed for some time too. It's not like an oral steroid tho',where you see action relatively quickly.

In the meantime,I mean until it heals, you may want to ask about using something like purilube on that eye, particularly if Blitz isn't able to close it all the way due to this inflammation. It'd just protect the eye itself from drying out and developing any complication, like an ulcer to the cornea. -- That is not to scare you at all! It's just a simple preventative. It's not unusal in a case of not being able to fully close a lid, that over time,an ulceration of the cornea can develop. And this does look like it'll take some time for Blitz to heal.

if you do use it,I'd put it in at night or before a nap he's about to have since it can make things a bit blurry (only because it's a gel type lubricant--not because it has any effect on vision specifically tho',not at all.)

Another thing along the lines of topical but not,is maybe gentamycin eyedrops? Altho',if it's inflammation and not a conjunctivitis, then that would not really affect things. However, you may want to ask the vet for a bottle to keep on hand in the event it becomes a conjunctivitis,or if you see signs of that over the weekend and it'd be best to have something you can treat it with.

Healing thoughts sent for Blitz!

Sounds like it may be a frustrating road to get that healed, but there's no tumor!!! :yay
