Guest jurishound
*Sorry - can't update my earlier post! Many thanks to everyone who sent good wishes Cuffy's way - the good news is that the xrays this evening were clear, and there is no sign of the dreaded "O" in his shoulder. The bad news is that the vet is unsure what is causing his fairly significant pain and discomfort. Some tummy prodding elicited a yelp, so she did an xray of his tummy (which showed only that it was full of supper) and mid to lower spine. There is a narrowing in one section of his spine which could be causing some nerve impingement. Interestingly, we have always believed he had LS because of his hind end weakness, but there is no sign of it on the radiographs. I asked her to send the radiographs to Dr. Couto, and we will schedule a neuro consult. Right now he is panting away in his bed, but did manage to get up a moment ago to scavenge for a snack. Many thanks again for all of your good thoughts and kind words. PS - Poor Stormy - he actually growled and snapped at me today, for the first time ever. I think Cuffy's "disability" is taking a toll on him as well.
Guest houndlover
I know how discouraging it can be to see the pups in pain and not know what to do b/c you have no idea what is causing it. I hope Cuffy is feeling better in the morning. I'm sure that Stormy knows that something is wrong with Cuffy too and that is probably why the poor thing snapped at you. Did the vet give you anything else for the pain for Cuffy? Sending good thoughts and hugs from me and all of the pups here.
greyhndz
Hi Joslin I hope you get this figured out - I know that when Cuffy is hurtin', mom is hurtin' even more. It certainly could be a herniated disk or some time of nerve root impingement. If you need a good neuro, go to see Dr. Sisson at Angell. He's brilliant. If you need contact info, let me know. Batmom
LS *is* a narrowing of the spinal canal, so I'm not sure why your vet is saying there's no sign of it on the x-ray? But, according to Dr. Stack, you might not see it on an x-ray. See here: http://greythealth.com/lumbosacral.htm Sending hugs and scritchies to you and your pupper. greyhndz
Thinkin' about Cuffy and you today! I believe Joslin heard from Dr. Sisson and was told an appointment was available today, but she was waiting to confirm. Hopefully Cuffy will be having his neuro evaluation sometime today. Be sure to update us, Joslin! I'm confident Dr. Sisson will figure it out, and that he'll be able to get Cuffy pain-free and feeling well again.
