PatricksMom
Patrick has his dental on Tuesday, and I picked up a brochure on this (cute picture Macaduck), and thought we might try it for a year. I figure it probably won't prolong his next dental, but we're not that great about brushing, and so far he hasn't needed any extractions and I'd like to keep it that way. Any idea how much this stuff costs? I haven't been able to find that info. online. The vet's applying the professional stuff as part of the dental, but I wasn't sure if that would be a different cost. Quote Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019). macoduck
Why thank you! That was me with Gracie and angel Oliver was in the brochure too. For the record, Gracie's actually licking peanutbutter from that applicator It was very hard to keep those dogs awake during the 2 hour photoshoot. I think each Oravet box runs about $24. My kids did not like it so we just brush now. If you need to soften in just remove the foil cover competely and put in the microwave for just a few seconds. Goes on the teeth easier.....if you can catch them. Saffron
Hmm. We have tried Oravet. The vet should apply the first coat after the dental. The second coat is up to you, 4-6 weeks later. I think the cost will depend on the vet but $24 sounds about right for the second coat. It is quite tricky to apply properly. Nice vet offices like ours will help to put it on. Honestly, I'm not sure it made much of a difference with our Miss "Nasty Teeth" (Pilgrim) anyway. We went for the peridontal disease vaccine after her last dental instead. We are crossing our fingers on that. I'm fairly convinced with my 3 greys that some of the tooth issues must be genetic. For those with horrid genetic teeth every little helps, including Oravet, however often you brush and we try to brush daily. I don't know how else to explain Miss "Sparkly Teeth," Miss "Nasty Teeth" and Mr "Horrid Mouth" who all get the same diet and the same regular brushing. Mr Horrid Mouth might not be representative because we only adopted him at 9, but still . . . Guest MAXNAV
My advice. Do whatever you can to clean the teeth. My guy won't have anything to do with it. My prior vet recommended a specialist for him, as he had the roots exposed on 2 teeth, and he didn't feel comfortable extracting them. Get this one............ $1700 later, his teeth were clean, and he had to extractions. I was so mad at my vet for referring me to them, and told them that unless someone has a neverending ATM account, that he shouldn't refer people to them. They were excellent, but WAY above and beyond the cost at other vets practices. I sure do wish that Navi would let me brush his teeth, but it's not going to happen. (That's why I have my "dog only" credit card.
Guest greygirls2
We tried this and it didn't work. I find that nothing beats daily brushing and I use Petzlife gel to brush and follow up with e shot of the spray and none of my dogs including the foster mind it at all. Their teeth are shiny and bright and their breath is sweet. Just a hint....PetEdge now carries the Petzlife products at a very cheap price. Batmom
I think it does prolong time between dentals, altho once plaque starts to occur it doesn't seem to help much. It prolongs the time to that point, tho. I use one segment per two dogs.
