Aerosmom
This is her daughter speaking, we were playing with Roo when she decieded to find and run around with a piece of velcro on nylon that was in a basket on the table. Despite or best attempts, we could not catch her before it was swallowed. it was about four inches long. Its been only about 5 min since it happened and therre are no symptoms of any problems. Is there anything short of surgery we could do? Guest trevdog
I'd call the vet, they might tell you to induce vomiting. Was it the sticky side with all the nubby things? I'd be a little more worried inducing if it was that side as it may hurt her throat.
Aerosmom
It was both, but the sticky side was only aout a cm long Quote Aero: http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?d=kees+uncatchable; our bridge angel (1/04/02-8/2/07) Snickers; our bridge angel (1/04/02-2/29/08) Cricket; Kanga Roo: oops girl 5/26/07; Doctor Thunder http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?z=P_31Oj&a...&birthland=
Guest RocketDog
We've had all sorts of fun experiences with Rocket eating inedible things... collar, a fleece scrap, etc. He had always vomited it up about 12-18 hours after eating it (we didn't even know he'd eaten the fleece until I found the horked up remains on our rug) I know that you can induce vomiting if you make the dog drink a little bit of hydrogen peroxide, but I don't know the 'dosing' for it... I gave about a teaspoon to Rocket after I discovered he'd chewed up a roll of tape, since I didn't know if he'd ingested any shards of plastic, and he vomited 4-5 times within 10 minutes, and there WERE shards of plastic so I was glad I'd induced. Guest Greyhoundbaby
Definitely call the vet...with sharp things our vet has told us to use butter bread with LOTS of butter - it coats the object until passed or thrown up...
Aerosmom
We called our vet and they said that she should be fine but to watch for any symptoms of distress, discomfort or blockage. I guess it gives new meaning to the word velcro dog. But velcro is rough and they may not want her to vomit it up, it may ripe the esophagus coming back up. Call the vet.

JenniferS
Any signs of the Velcro today? I'm sure a lot of vets could tell many stories of the crazy things puppies have eaten and passed. I wouldn't be too worried unless she shows any signs of being uncomfortable. Aerosmom
No Velcro yet, but Roo is acting completely normal and has her usual number of poops -- I've been watching carefully for any sign of the blue Velcro tie. I can't imagine what possessed her to eat it, but I think she thought it was a game. My daughter was playing with her and Roo loves snatching things in her mouth and running around with them. Guess she decided to sample it. My daughter said she tried in vain to get the Velcro out of her mouth. We've been giving her bread with butter so I hope it'll work it's way out soon. I'll update. Aerosmom
Yeah!! Too funny. Was it whole? It was the whole piece. My daughter checked to make sure *all* came out and she said it had turned into a loop -- when Roo initially ate it, it was a strip. I'm glad Roo didn't turn into a Velcro dog -- literally!
