Hello everyone, I brought my 1yr old greyhound boy Monte home 3 weeks ago yesterday. He has adapted pretty well to apartment life, although he's still quite aloof. But outside is a separate story. He is very slow on walks, freezes often and will not go to the bathroom on the leash. As a result, I have had to take him to the dog park where he can go off leash every time we go out. He also has crazy control over his bladder - I've taken him out on the leash for 2.5 hours and he will hold it until I cave and take him to the park. Any tips? -
Hello - first time posting here! The issue: Our 3 year old greyhound has been having frequent accidents. We have had him for almost a year and did not have many accidents for the first 6 months. He has gradually been having more and more accidents while we are at work. Unfortunately he is home alone for 8 hours a day while we're at work. With the success we had at the beginning, we thought he was getting the hang of it. Our attempt: We will typically come home to an accident, 3-4 days a week. He is usually okay on the weekends when we're home, and we keep him on a similar schedule to be consistent. We are also continuing to treat and praise him when he goes outside. We've even purchased a new washable rug to make sure we can remove the odor, and always use Nature's Miracle to clean up. We are definitely planning to take him to the vet to have him checked out. Question: Does anyone have experience with this? We were putting off the vet because we thought it was that he was smelling the odor. Is there better training we can do? I am starting to feel horrible for leaving him home, but I know a lot of people do it successfully. Any advice is appreciated.

My SO and I have had our greyhound for about 3 months. Every Monday-Friday, I take him out at 6:30 AM before I start getting ready for work. He was always totally fine with that, until about a week ago. He started softly growling, got louder, started barking, then snapping. I was always able to get the leash on him before any real snapping began, but today he snarled before I even got near him. I tried to pet him first, to show him it was okay, and he bit my hand. So I just reached in and grabbed his collar and pulled him up, thinking I was showing him who's boss. He showed all his teeth, his ears stood straight up....it was horrible. Once he's up and awake, he's totally fine. It honestly just seems that he'd rather keep sleeping. Anytime after 9:00 AM, he's totally fine going out. No aggression or anything. He never seems overly excited to be going out, but at least we don't have to forcibly pull him up. He's really not treat motivated at all. He always just avoids eye contact whenever we try to bribe him with a treat. My fear now is that I'm making him afraid. He knows the morning routine...I don't want him to associate anything negative, like myself or my SO pulling him up forcibly in order to get him outside. We've decided after today's incident to not grab him and force him up again, so as to not make him fearful of us. But the only alternative is to keep letting him sleep. Then he'll have to hold it until 5:00 PM that afternoon, which I think is way too long. Although he does seem capable of holding it for an extraordinary amount of time. Sometimes when we take him out when we get home from work, he'll only do a #1, and no #2. He'll do that before bed, so at that point, he basically waited 15+ hours, of his own choice though. Anyone else experience this or have any insights? I never want to out him or myself in another position to get bitten/bite, but I'm not sure what's the next best step.

How To Get Him To Leave His Bed And Come For A Potty Before Bed

Hi! I'm having a bit of trouble with my 1st foster. He is great and easy in so many aspects! I really feel that he is already so well behaved, and he has such a great attitude. It's mostly the whole taking him out to potty thing. We go out in the morning at 7. I feed him at 7:30. We go out again at 8:30/9. Then again around 1. I feed him around 4:30/5. We go out again around 6:30. and then he refused to go out again after 8. I want to do one last potty break before bed, but he will not leave his dog bed for anything (treats, coaxing, leash, etc). If he doesn't out before bed, he wakes us up at 5 or earlier. How can I get him to leave his bed? He is a pretty big boy, and this being our first greyhound, we're a little unsure how to get him to stand up without stressing or scaring him. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!!!! -
Poor Pup Wont Pee And Is Afraid Of Traffic-- Help.

Hi Greyhound lovers, Help:) Looking for some advice. I recently adopted a beautiful 5 years greyhound, Pluto, brought him home on Saturday to where I live on the beach directly off Pacific Coast Highway. He had been doing great the first few days, adapting to the condo, the beach and everything new. Until yesterday. He learned the stairs that go up and down to my condo entrance right away, but since yesterday, all of the sudden, he refuses to go up them. And its the only way in and out of my condo. And the only way he can get to the street (PCH) or anywhere else to the go to the bathroom. I help him up one foot at a time, but once we get to the top he immediately pulls hard to get back down to the condo. I really don't think it is the stairs, I think he has become terrified of the traffic on PCH. As he will gladly go up and down the stairs to the beach on the other side of my building. But now he refuses to go up and down from the condo or relieve himself alongside the road on PCH where the cars are driving by. He is super afraid. If I could take him to the beach every time to go to the bathroom, it would be fine. But I can't as the tides are not always low enough. Which means if he does not go alongside the road, he does not go. Its been since yesterday at 6:30pm since he went to the bathroom. I'm worried. Any advice on this? Any thoughts welcome.
