  1. Thank you for all your support, thoughts and prayers. DH was able to capture a good amount of urine this morning so will keep you posted. I'm sure the neighbors thought he'd gone insane.
  2. First a little history. All four of our had some bad food and got the squirts. Long story short, three have been fine for a couple weeks now. Della has not improved and we posted before and followed many suggestions. Friday I called the vet and she thought it was something I can't even pronounce so she had us pick up some amoxycilin and said we should see instant improvement if it is what she thought. No improvement to get excited about. She went from a squirting distance of two feet down to one but still orangeish water. Her coat is not shiney any more and her stomach is bloated and she has no tuck left to speak of. We dropped her off this morning. She would fart when her belly was pressed on and it was beyond the normal peel the paint gas. They did x-rays. Heart seems fine and is normal size. Belly area wasn't clear because there was so much fluid in there. They did a needls aspiration and pulled out water (no pus). Bloodwork was ordered. The vet is thinking it may be a liver problem or a gastro intestinal problem where the body isn't absorbing nutrition and it just leaks fluid into the belly. Im sorry if I'm not clear. It was such a surprise to know she may be very sick. The vet said not to panic until the results are back. We are to collect urine and bring it in in the morning. She wants to see how much protein is in it. She also said some of the things she can fix with medicine and diet but others she can't. I guess some good thoughts and prayers may be in order please. (edited to show update)
  3. Natalie has always been a little shakey since we got her when peeing or pooping. Last week it was raining and running to go out, she slipped on the carpet outside and her right hind leg slid out from under her. She gathered herself up and continued like nothing happened. (We put indoor/outdoor carpet because the cement slab was slippery.) Yesterday, she was pooping and it seemed her back legs went out and she fell backwards and "sat" on her poop. She was on a slight incline in the yard but not at all steep. She looked embarrassed, got up and walked away to finish later. She gets glucosamine/chondroitin in her food. Wonder gets an extra supplement of glucosamine. Should we be giving it to Natalie too or is there something better that might help strengthen her? She still outruns the other three. She is acting fine and eating and all else seems normal, but falling twice within a week concerns us. Any suggestions?

    Lenny

A co-worker lost his basset yesterday. Lenny had been rubbing his head on the ground, was doing some moaning and not eating very well. The vet suggested a dental so Dana agreed and dropped him off for the dental and nail trim. He got a phone call that they couldn't get the tube down his throat and when they looked further they saw a huge tumor. It was so big they said it would be soon when Lenny would not be able to breathe and that they felt it was cancer that had gone into the jaw. They recommended the big sleep. As they felt it wouldn't be more than a couple weeks, Dana gave Lenny the final gift of love. He was second guessing himself today but I told him he saved Lenny from suffering. He feels terrible that he didn't get a chance to say goodbye but I told him that Lenny will always live in his heart. Goodbye Lenny. Your Daddy will see you at the Bridge.
  5. It's always too soon when they go. Our sympathies are with her loved ones and family.

    Bb Gone

BB which stands for Bat Bird (she used to hang upside down when she was young) was my first bird. I had her a few years and Max became her DH for years until he passed (night fright which we didn't hear, broke a couple blood feathers and bled out). Every vet trip you had to bring both because if one was left home, it would call and call and call until the other came home. One time BB had to be hospitalized because of a soft egg and Max had to stay with her. Anyhow, Max has been gone for several years and BB aged gracefully. The vet said she had something like diabetes three or four years ago and that she wouldn't live much longer. Little did she know. Scott said I've had BB longer than him, which is true. This morning when I uncovered her it seemed like she was still sleepy and a little fluffed. I was going to ask Scott to take a look at her but got distracted by our morning routine. When I got home at lunch time, she was on the bottom of the cage, gone. I feel guilty because I didn't take her to the vet but on the other hand, the vet said she was on borrowed time years ago. Fly free BB....Max is happy you're with him. We will miss you but know you are in a better, happier place.
  7. It's always too soon and there's never enough time with them. What we wouldn't give for five more minutes... Will miss hearing about him. Run free and strong Jim.
  8. I'm sure all GT's Bridge Kids will show her around until we all meet again.
  9. Words fail me. I think we all feel like we lost one of our family. Be free precious one. We love you and always will.
  10. Just sent mine via PayPal. I this site and my GT family.
  11. Our deepest condolences. Prayers for strength and support.

    Happy Gotcha Day

I still remember how awful it was for you. However, I for making a hard desion that :bannana worked out for Frankie and you. doG bless.
  13. So sorry the "civilized" humans failed you and the ones that cared were alerted too late. God speed. Edited to add when I posted I was feeling that they euthanized before the 23 and he could have been saved. I feel it hurts them too when they do what they do, but again, it was done earlier than scheduled.
  14. Tears for you both but as we all know, we will see them again.
  15. I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my parents nine days apart ten years ago and although it does get better, it still seems like yesterday. There's just something different when you lose your mother. I found the old saying, "You never become a woman until you lose your mom" to ring very true. So many perspectives change. Again, my deepest condolences.
  16. We love our vet. With that being said, there are five other vets in his practice. It's a large facility, with a big staff and adoptions available. What gets me is the $40 charge for a rabies shot, $37 for a fecal. However, we always try to see the owner (as does everyone else) as he is so sweet and genuinely cares for the animals. He is open seven days a week and is there until 8pm Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. He opens at 7:30 am. How's that for dedication? He was there Thanksgiving last year when Inky had to go to the Bridge. Whatever it takes, he's always there and ready to help. Doesn't matter what time of night it is, he'll always call you back. We're still paying on Inky's bill and when we see the owner, he always gives us a break. I can't remember when, since Maui and Inky passed, that he charged for an office visit or nail trim. The other vets charge for office visits which are about $45. The owner's a hero in our book. Oh, forgot to mention that he gets on the floor and plays and loves on the greys for the longest time.

    Jaeger

It's a difficult thing to do - that last final gift of freedom and release. I'm sure she's running swift and free with Inky and Maui and all her extended family's bridge kids. Will think of her every visit to BarkBack
  18. Tears for Benny and his family too. Be happy little guy. You will surely be missed. See you at the bridge with all our other puppers.
  19. Thank you for all your hard work, including all the moderators. Check's in the mailbox waiting for the postman. This site is like an extended family and is truly appreciated.
  20. Thank you for the kind thoughts. Wish I could build a stairway for all of us...but we'll just have to wait
  21. Hope I'm not off base but just had to get this out... This is a very difficult place for me to be because of the loss of our furkids Inky and Maui and also of my 31 year old son who died suddenly and without warning of a heart attack that day before my birthday in 2001. Every time I come here I end up crying but I always, on occasion, come back because I share the pain and loss. A version of "If Tommorow Starts Without Me" was given to me after Frankie's death and I thought it very appropriate for any loss. Tonight I was cleaning up and found an "In the Company of Dogs" catalog that someone at work gave me many months ago and looking through it I found a "commemorative stone" that I think says it all for anyone...and this is why I'm posting, and I'll quote... "If I could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again"
  22. Missing Maui and Inky but know they will have wonderful holidays with my son
