  1. I miss that sweet boy My favorite picture of him is saved to my work computer for my "sleep" mode but I can't copy it for some reason. He's on a beach up on his back legs and the rest of his body and face smushed into the sand with his front legs back. So cute I'll have to keep trying to figure out how to move that pic.
  2. Could I just send a general e-mail over there and ask some questions? I'm just curious about what the process would be to see if it's something I'd consider before I have our vet get involved. The pic was from me putting in my two cents - not the OP My girl does have a corn though but no Therapaws for her... she feels like those are torture devices and that she cannot move with them on Our vet said to keep an eye on the lump and if it gets any bigger or harder it's for sure a tumor - and it's gotten quite a bit harder since it popped up on Wednesday...
  3. Went to the vet this morning and we think that's what we're dealing with as well. I have been having "the talk" with myself today ... she's still running and playing and a happy girl so for now I'm just keeping an eye on it. Today is her 12th birthday and I just don't feel like she's "old," and she doesn't either

    One Year

I have that last picture of him in the sand among the pictures that scroll on my screen saver. He's never far from my thoughts
  5. I think this means it's story time
  6. I took my girls to the dog park on Sunday (4 days ago) and Eden came home with a limp. She did run like a maniac so when she started limping I was okay with it. It's been a few days now and it's not getting better. She'll tear around the yard like nothing but when she finally slow's down she holds her leg up. She's 12, so no spring chicken... my worry is that this is how I lost my first grey. She played with her favorite friend, a wiener dog, started limping, and 10 days later she was gone I will most likely take her to the vet on Saturday but I wonder that I'm being too sensitive.
  7. This happened with my girl before a dental. It swelled up and turned dark purple. They had shaved it for the blood draw so you could really see the discoloration. She went in for the dental and they called me in the afternoon to tell me it was a no-go and they had kept her around to keep an eye on her. I can't remember if they gave her anything while she was still there but they just told me to keep an eye on it. I don't know what it looked like to begin with because she was at the vet for a good 5 hours before I got her... Hopefully everything is okay <3
  8. I had to go back and re-read the olives thread. I have only ever had girls (by chance) so this horrified me Copper not only gets the olives but will lick and start to hump his mouth. He gets all curled up in a ball and goes at it. I'm pretty sure I'll stick with the girls now
  9. For Eden I use a cuticle pusher/cleaner to do it and it has worked super well. You can get them at drug stores for cheap. http://www.shoeandfootcare.com/p/208-551-00/product-titania-stainless-steel-double-sided-cuticle-pusher-cleaner-p208-551.html One end is flat and about a quarter inch wide and the other end has a point. I get the edges up as far as I can with the flat side and use the point if I have to to get the final pull.
  10. My girl had those when I first adopted her but they were only on her stomach. In our case, they look almost identical, and they are just black heads. When she's super relaxed I roll her over and squeeze them out till she's had enough. Her whole tummy was bald before and COVERED in blackheads but in six years I've gotten it down quite a bit.
  11. How's MIckey doing now? And I feel bad for your friend having to deal with this with her very first dog - eek. I guess now she knows she can handle whatever comes next
  12. I have had great success with a homeopathic remedy from Lori Rose in Europe (Lori Rose RHom Lic BsH Homeopathic Medicine) lorimrose@aol.com I found her online through a website that her friend runs. I originally e-mailed the friend who then put me in touch with Lori. Anyway - it's these teeny tiny balls that melt on the pups tongue - one that's once a day for 6 days, one that's once a week for 6 weeks, and then an essential oil that you put on the corn a few times a day. I will say that the corn got bigger before it totally went away but MAN what a happy dog after it was gone. You do have to keep up on the essential oil applications even after the corn is gone but it seriously takes 2 minutes. Lori asks a few questions about your dog and it's health and then custom makes the remedy for your pup. It was worth the $60 USD or so that it cost and she ships super quick.
  13. I was also kind of wondering about her being stuck in them all day. They have their own room during the day and unless they are in the tiny, freezing laundry room or possibly one section of the kitchen there is nowhere else to put them (the mutt doesn't like being alone). The wood floors in their room I'm sure are ruined from her pottying so I was thinking of something to put on top of the floor. The problem is that she always goes in front of the closet door so I can't put anything thick down or the door won't open... I was thinking maybe I could put a piece of linoleum or something with barriers at the edges so the pee didn't travel. Anyone ever try a potty patch? ETA - not such great reviews :/
  14. Eden will be 11 this month and the last few months she's been having accidents once or twice a week while I'm at work. We have the same routine in the mornings and they get about 20 minutes outside before I head out to work. I'm getting tired cleaning up so often... so will bad girl undies work for a full bladder or are they more just for leaks?
  15. I ordered some homeopathic stuff from Lori Rose in the UK. She specifically makes the treatment to your pups needs so she asks general health questions and then she makes it. I think I spent $55 USD and got it in a few weeks. There was a TINY pill once a day for 6 days and then another TINY pill once a week for 6 weeks and some oil to rub in twice a day. It got bigger before it got smaller and in about a month it was gone. poof! Great stuff. I did notice the other day that it's back so it's back to the oil on her toe. I'm sure had I continued to use it the corn wouldn't be back lesson learned.
  16. I've had Eden for 5.5 years now and she's always had a reason to gimp. Originally it was a toe that always dislocating, then after removing it I figured it was just that her foot was "different." Then she got a puncture from something in the yard and then just recently I found a corn. Our vet wouldn't touch it so we opted for hulling it ourselves and a homeopathic remedy I got from overseas. Well the corn went from medium sized to huge and now it's almost completely gone but her limping has gotten 10 times worse. She would gingerly walk when the corn was bigger but now her limp is super pronounced and when she's just standing there she holds her foot up. She will still get a hair in her butt and tear around the yard but her gait is really off. She lets me poke and prod and doesn't seem to care but... I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried. To tell you the truth my hope is that by "verbalizing" it and kind of expecting it that I will have the luxury of it still "happening to other people." I know that's a horrible thing to say but MAN do I want it to be reality Saturday I'll be taking her to the vet and requesting X-rays. *sigh*
  17. I had to excuse myself at work to go and cry in the bathroom. It's amazing how she touched people that never met her. I'm so sorry for all of us to have lost her and of course sorry for your family that got to see her everyday.
  18. As was mentioned before - it's amazing how you can mourn the loss of a dog you never met - like it was your own. Big hugs to everyone in your family.
  19. That's what it sounds like. I wondered what they considered medically necessary, also but the receptionist was just the middle man in the conversation. From what I read it's quite painful for them to continue to walk on. I printed some literature on the process of hulling and was going to send it over but I'm torn; obviously they've never done it before and I'm a little irritated they have made their decision already. And I specifically asked about hulling since at this point a full on surgery isn't necessary at all.
  20. So I just called my vet and they will not tough it. She also said it's so rare that they don't believe that's what it is. I told them it's common in greyhounds but they said unless it was medically necessary they wouldn't touch it. So now what... do I go to another vet and start over and have everything transfered? I've had the same vet for 5 years now so I wouldn't even know how to go about this. I did read some things online about home remedies that could draw the corn out... has anyone tried that?
  21. Eden has been limping and I just noticed there is a lump on the bottom of her paw. I googled what corns look like but her's looks fairly small compared to the pictures I saw. It's almost more of a wart and not even quite as big as a pencil eraser. Can they be that small and still hurt? And do they get bigger if untreated?
