  1. Has anyone had their dog prescribed Keppra for seizure control? My friend Joan, the one who almost lost her big boy Luke earlier this month to uncontrollable cluster seizures, has been told that Luke needs to be on the drug Keppra in addition to phenobarbital and potassium bromide. This drug is HUGELY expensive running at about $15 per DAY if the brand name is used. I have found a generic version in Canada called Levetiracetam that runs $7.74US per day. If you have used this drug, did it help control the seizures in your dog, and were you able to find a more affordable source here in the USA? Thanks for your help. Carol Ann
  2. Come on Rusty - you have come so far Buddy - keep on trying for your Mommy. Prayers from Orlando for Rusty and for you. Carol Ann
  3. Actually, that IS the price from Costco/Sam's Club!! $514.61 for 90 1000 mg pills. That is one months supply at the dosage needed. The generic is not available in the USA yet, so they only carry the brand name Keppra. I guess that the generic is already approved in Canada, and that is why they are able to sell it at a lower price. Even $7.74 per day is very high though for a drug that will need to be used long term. Carol Ann
  4. Does anyone know of a cheaper source for pet/human meds? My friends dog needs to take a dosage of Keppra that will run $15 per day. I have found the generic Levetiracetam for $7.74 per day from a Canadian pharmacy. Does anyone know of a cheaper source? Thanks, Carol Ann

  7. Luke needs your help. He is in the emergency clinic right now, very very ill with cluster seizures. Luke is the greyhound of one of our key volunteers at GPA-Greater Orlando named Joan. Joan has helped many people on this board get their hounds, and now she needs your prayers for her own dog. Luke is a very special dog to so many of us. He is a big brindle boy who is very gentle and loving. He has had seizures for the past several years, but nothing like he has had this weekend. Since yesterday he has had eight seizures. The e-vet says that his electrolytes are also all out of whack. Currently they have administered propafol and have him sedated trying to give his brain a chance to rest and break this seizure cluster. So, please say a prayer for Luke and for Joan. She just lost her twelve year old girl Duchess last Friday. Carol Ann Update Monday 1pm Luke made it through the night, but just barely. He has been transfered to a specialty clinic where he can get the diagnosis and treatment he needs. Right now they are not sure what the underlying cause of this episode is, so they are running tests and keeping him calm. Please continue to pray for this very special boy. Luke is just so very sick, and everyone who loves him is worried to the bone about him. Update Tuesday 9am Luke is doing better. He is still at the specialty hospital. They were able to get him up and walking, and he went the night seizure free. Now the docs just have to figure out what is going on with him to cause all these problems. Please keep those prayers coming - they are working! Luke's Mom Joan sends her sincere thanks to everyone who has taken the time to pray for a dog that you don't even know here on Greytalk. What an awesome community of greyhound lovers we have here! Wednesday July 11th - 3pm Luke is doing better! He is still not out of the woods yet, but has made a lot of progress. The cluster seizures have stopped, although he has had two seizures since then. They are adjusting his phenobarb dosage, and hope that this will prevent anymore breakthrough seizures. All of his paws and legs are very swollen, so that is a mystery that the vets are trying to figure out. If everything continues to improve, Joan hopes to have her boy home on Friday! Please keep up the prayers for Luke and his family - they have all been through so much this past week, and they need the support. Greyt news here! Luke came home from the hospital today! He is weak and tired (they said that he did not sleep much) and still has a long road ahead of him. The doctors want to add a third anti epilepsy drug called Keppra to his phenobarbital and potassium bromide regime. The brand name version of this drug is incredibley expensive at around $15 per DAY, so Joan is hunting for a cheaper source for the generic form. Thank you again for praying for Luke - even though you did not know him. You have no idea how much the prayers were appreciated by everyone who loves this special boy. Carol Ann Here is a photo of Cuzzin Luke taken last New Years Eve at my house.
  8. My very close friend Joan from GPA-Greater Orlando lost her 12 year old girl Duchess to OS yesterday. Duchess was a very special girl and was well loved. She had lived with her family for the past 10 years, and was their second greyhound of many. Duchess was diagnosed with OS nine weeks ago in her elbow. She put up a very brave fight, managing on pain meds and living life to the fullest until the very end. She loved to line up with the rest of the pack for treats, and continued to do so. She will be greatly missed.
