  1. My Chester has been gone 10 years now and Polly has been gone about 9. At first, even breathing hurt. Give yourself time. There is no one right way to grieve. Different people have different needs. Sometimes one person will follow a different process for different animals. For me, I kept Polly and Chester's collars / tags and bowls. My mom, who doesn't like dogs, recently bought a cement dog that had angel wings because "it looked like Chester". Chester is now sitting on my front porch wearing the original Chester's collar and tags. I smile every time I see him.

  2. Words are so inadequate. I am so sorry for your and Phene's pain. She was truly one in a million. I hope that she, the Queen, LoriAnn and all the rest of the saucy broads of GT are setting a new standard for mischief at the bridge. :grouphug

  3. Please try to ignore the comments about "putting her to sleep". People aren't making those comments because she is a (shhhhhh) "dog", they are making them because they are stupid. Trust me, I know. I wouldn't be surprised to find out I hold the world's record for dumbest comments ever received - everything from it must be nice to be so rich that I can afford to take Sirocco to an opthamologist to I should have stopped feeding ds when he was a baby until he learned to walk on his own.

I hope Loca feels better very quickly.

  4. I live in the Greenwood area and take my dogs to see Dr Sheff at the Meridian Vet Clinic on 135. We have taken our dogs to Dr Sheff for over 20 years and I can not think of one bad thing to say about him. Not only is he an excellent vet with lots of grey experience, but he is very cost conscious too. I don't know if Dr. Sheff is accepting new patients but Dr. Spencer is very good also. Dr Haviland is also in the practice but he seems to be more of a cat doctor.

If the pup needs to go to an emergency clinic, the Airport Animal Emergency Center is the only one I can recommend.

  5. Another vote for go-to-an-opthamologist-asap. Our vet is very grey savvy and easily diagnosed Sirocco's pannus. However, his recommendation was to get Sirocco to a specialist to start treatment asap. Pannus is controllable, not curable, and I have never heard of any dog's going away on its own.

  6. Something similar happened to Nikki. When I took her into the vet for it, he said that a little bit of the fluid must have leaked into the tissue when they removed the iv. The fluid caused tissue injury that began to slough. The leg originally started with what looked like a scrape and continued to get deeper. It took weeks of special high-sugar dressing changes and a debridment with sutures to fix it. I was grateful to my vet because he said it was their fault it happened so he didn't charge me a penny for the treatment.

My vote is to get your pup to the vet to make sure it's not a similar problem.

  7. Hope Ms Loca is back to her sweet, innocent and misunderstood self quickly. Sirocco just finished up a round of Clavamox & Baytril for an infected leg. One of the antibiotics upset his tummy also. We started the Pepcid when he stopped plotting ways to snitch our dinners. :ph34r The Pepcid seemed to help fairly quickly. It's just not right when a Reko dog wants to behave. :unsure

  8. Practicing Catholic. Attended Catholic schools from kindergarten through college. My experience has been that some teachers will present their beliefs as Bible-truth, whether or not they agree with official doctrine. Some say creationism. Some say God created the evolutionary process. Some say pro-life only = anti-abortion. Some say pro-life = all life. The list goes on and on......

I believe that dogs go to heaven. Why? I know a priest who suffered a major heart attack. When he was brought back, he said that his childhood dog was there to greet him when his heart stopped. I've heard of others who had the same experience. Faith doesn't always have to be logical or provable.
