    The Legacy

Slick: Stay long enough to love and be loved. Be persistant--if someone loves you, they will figure it out.
  2. Which condroitin? There is a big difference in supplements. Same for MSM. Deramaxx and rimadyl have the same serious adverse reaction % in dogs who have a reaction, at 23% death rate from oral (and with rimadyl, injection 23%) This is a percent as related to reactions, not total doses. Deramaxx is the worst on the stomach. Regardless of which one you use, you should add pepcid, tagamet or zantac to the daily regiment. Metacam oral is 12% (death rate as a % of adverse reactions) as is etcogesic, however injectible metacam is 23%. Most of the dogs I've heard of have had various reactions to etcogesic and metacam seems to be the one best tolerated. Sure as I say that, he won't be able to take it In addition to the normal supplements, there are chinese herbs that help arthritis. Of course, chiropractic and acupuncture provide tremendous relief when done on a continuing basis. With my guys, each one has been different as to the time frame needed between adjustments and treatment. Some old ones have benefited from Duralactin. I tried it with Magic and saw no result, but she was very old and on a good regiment of other supplements.
  3. Bumping up for new comers or those who haven't give info to their vets yet
  4. Sending my sympathy I know how you feel. I'm sure Ivey met her and they are running like the wind once again.
  5. Totally not true. If you had blood work done before she went on it and do a follow up you should be ok. Don't freak out. However, if she does not need it, I wouldn't use it. I believe that medicating many times causes them to use a limb they shouldn't be using.

In a few days it will be 8 years since her light left my life and this earth. Be aware of the side effects of all NSAIDs. Make sure you receive a product insert. Make sure blood work is done before starting on them (for instance, this is Pfizer's protocol regarding rimadyl--not mine!) and at two weeks (yes, two weeks--had that been done, I believe Eliza could have been saved), then every 6 weeks. Make sure platelets are checked in addition to kidney & liver function. Do not treat these drugs lightly--there is a reason that death was added as a side effect! I say this because I have noticed that many people pop NSAIDs into their pets like we take aspirin or ibuprofen. There is a reason the drug companies say "do blood work before dispensing". Listen to your vet if he/she recommends blood work, and if he/she does not do blood work, request it! I have managed for 8 years and with 16 other seniors to treat without the use of NSAIDs. Thank heaven!!! I thought the other day (after sending Slick off) about meeting her and seeing that great big smile and hugging her and telling her how sorry I am. That day is not too far off and I hope I can leave my guilt at the bridge when we go over....... I you Eliza Jane.
  8. Made me tear up reading it and then I thought -- what wonderful memories and I smiled I can just see her doing a pogo dance!
  9. I've done water therapy on wounds that were pretty gross and they healed. They have to heal from the inside out. Just keep up the irrigation as he instructed you and it will heal Sending more prayers.

I've been wondering how she was doing Sending my sympathy
  11. I believe the "guest" posting was reserved for the Secret Santa forum (which we do not have yet). But we will soon?
  12. Slick has joined the gang at the bridge. He was failing for some time and last night went down in the rear and I could not get him up. Sometimes it is just time. So, instead of the scheduled ultrasound for his bladder, he made the trip...... What a grand old man! Seniors are so incredible. Just a few days ago, my roommate Rosemary called and said "what can I feed him?" I've offered him 3 kinds of kibble, hamburger, rolls.... I said "are you sure he wants to eat" She said "he's standing there looking at me and barking" That meant, yes he wanted to eat and you had to figure out what menu he was barking out He wanted some NB beef roll. Once fed the "right" item, he layed down and was content. I'm going to miss the old guy. He's running with the kids, and will find his first "mom" who preceded him. Run like the wind sweet boy!
  13. I am so sad to hear this Lisa! Sending my sympathy.
  14. Well, if the Secret Santa forum went up, we'd have somewhere to play
