  1. glad he's doing so well!!!

our first 2 BOTH had bloat (rare, I know!) - - Nube's was done at our regular vet (who we LOVE) but he was cut almost end to end, stapled and bruised terribly. 2 years later, Rainey ALSO bloated and had 1am surgery at the Evet -- she had a TINY incision, was stitched perfectly and hardly any bruising at all. Two completely different outcomes for the same exact surgery. Just depends on who's doing it.!

Huge difference from one surgery and the other, sorry your 1st grey had to go through that. I am still so thankful to TBhounds (Tracy) without her i would not have known about the non invasive option. Luckily i found someone @ Tufts Grafton MA not too far from me who does it. Also lucky i was able to get an appt in a week after Charlies last emergency. It has been so easy for Charlie which he deserves. He has been through enough already. I Expect TBhounds gets her rewards from helping the dogs but Tracy- i wish i could thank you more! Maybe if i win the lottery, oh right, i'd have to start playing it. :-)
  2. I will say i am slightly, very slightly, concerned over his weight loss. 6 lbs but he has been eating like a champ. Dr McCarthy thought his weight was perfect. The vet exam when this all started with the gagging thought his weight was perfect then. I had been cutting back slightly as my husband in the beginning fed too much and Charlie was up to 97 lbs! Down to 91 and after all this he is at 86 lbs. I had to convince my husband in the beginning that Greyhounds should have a couple of ribs showing, he gets it now. But i suppose it was because we were always trying to have Rhea put on weight, my 13 yr old German Shepherd who has exocrine pancreatic insuffiency, who is doing great, just thin and she is elderly.

I am thinking it has been all the stress Charlie has been through and trying to remain positive about the results of the biopsy next week. Charlie again, is looking great, eating well.

  3. How's the Charlie man today????

The Charlie man is doing GREYT!!!! I'll take it! Thanks for asking

still trying to figure out how to post pics using "my media" I'll get it eventually

Also the incisions are not red at all. He is healing well and quickly. He does not seems to be in discomfort at all. I am still amazed how well this surgery went. This wasn't something simple although you would think it was.

  4. I just wanted to check in as so many of you have been so wonderful, caring and wondering how Charlie is. I am pretty amazed with this laparoscopic surgery. It is almost as if he didn't have surgery the way he is acting. He wants to run down the stairs and i am taking him gently by his collar. He has been a hungry boy! Sleeping on the couch now. All is good. Dr McCarthy is obviously a fantastic doctor, i must send him a thank you note. Wish i could do that for all of you.

Tracy-i don't know where to begin-if not for you he would have had his chest cut open for this and as you said still be in ICU for a week. He had the surgery just yesterday, you'd never know it! Will call in 5-7 days for results of biopsy but i finally feel at ease. I love this boy, he is such a good boy. I will get pics soon. I have to figure out how to post a pic here in "my media"

Sleep well all! We will finally!

  5. He is home and looks pretty darn good! He is settling in after eating, Charlie was hungry. The incisions are small so he will heal quickly. Thank heaven Tracy told me about the laparoscopy rather than the other surgery. So happy to have him home. March will be a good month! I'm going to go watch TV with my pups :-)

  6. wish i could respond to you all individually, i read all these replies but would need to write everyones name down and respond individually which would make this thread 20 pages long. Maybe in the end i can do that. Yes i am so relieved with Charlie possibly coming home tomorrow, i know he will have discomfort and i hate that. If it has saved his life then a little discomfort will have to be. They said Charlie is nervous but not as much as some Greys as they have seen. I told them that is why i adopted Charlie, he was afraid of the world. Not sure if everyone knows i worked in the shelter he came to. I loved all the Greys but Charlie really needed a home. Since he has been here he has been loved and he loves back everyone he meets. They said he is calm once he is used to you, that's my Charlie. The only one in the kennel who would tear up his blankets out of boredom. I would hide extra treats under my shirt so all the Greys didn't know he had something a little extra, I gave them ALL special treats but Charlie a tad more. He was we think a coyote dog and found starving in someones barn after being spotted for at least a month. He had a mutilated tail hence his little waggy stub tail.. I loved all the Greys there but he is special to me, of course, he is my family now.

  7. i swear by tripe, you can buy it canned in a high end pet food store. It contain natural enzymes and probiotics. Stinky but good. My GSD has exocrine pancreatic insuffiecency since age 7 and lost a lot of weight because of it and diarreah all the time. She can't eat chicken but can eat other proteins. She gets tripe and a little pumpkin daily. She is now 13 yrs old and pretty amazing for her age and breed. Whatever you do, just try one thing at a time to know what is working. I use fish oil too or coconut oil and frankly would never ask my vet for advice about food. Only the one who i used to see who is holistic and traditional and has nutritional knowledge but i needed someone closer.

I feed raw and most vets will not agree with that, it works for my dogs.

The vet i see now started to give me a lecture on raw once, and i said, i know, you are going to mention salmonella, but you know dogs digestive tracks are shorter than humans. He replied "I'm not a nutritionist."

Katka, i hope there is perhaps a small pet food place nearby you that you can get some ideas from. Sounds like your pup needs simple food without a lot of things in it.

  8. XO all of you!!!!!!! I just got home, i rec'd a call on my cell phone @ 12:30. Surgery went well nothing unusual found, no tumor! The sac was thicker than he has seen, not sure if it means anything. They will do a biopsy on the tissue which is the normal process.

Poor baby has a tube in his chest for now and is on pain meds of course. This has to be the last of this for Charlie! Am i forgetting anything? I hope to bring him home tomorrow! They will call me later and in the morning with updates, As i thought, it isn't as easy to speak with someone there as it was in the Tufts Walpole. The Doctor said he would rather i didn't call tonight as i may get the wrong information but then he said he would have his assistant call me :-) He knows i am not a nut i think and just a loving mother who won't panic.

  9. I called twice yesterday and once this morning. They always say they are doing rounds but do eventually find someone who speaks with me. He is there because they have the laparoscopy but Walpole has a number you press if your animal is there. They were right there for you.

I asked them if they would possibly do his nails as he will have stitches. I actually felt funny asking that but under the circumstances, i didn't expect the surgeon to cut his nails. I usually keep on top of that but it has been 3 times to the hospital this month as you know. I also need to ask them about something safe to calm him for the ride home. He shook and panted heavily on the way there yesterday. I can't have him going through that when taking him home. Anyway can't wait to hear after the surgery. Going to take Rhea out and go to work for awhile. Thanks Tracy-and everyone!

Even with the Goodrx it will be $177.00 btw the aminocaproic acid.
