  1. I wanted to add-We have a lot of bunnies in my yard too, there are woods across the street. One time as I was heading out the front door with Charlie, I didn't look around first and he almost took me flying off the front steps because there was a bunny right there. After that I always said "leave it" in a stern voice. It has worked! Wish it worked for the stray cats he sees. Not yet anyhow. There is a bold feral who will actually walks toward us even though Charlie is barking at him.

  2. Rhea my over 13 yr old GSD has this and has the hind end weakness for awhile. She is also fecal incontinent, she tries to get outside when she feels it coming but doesn't always make it. I too use Salmon oil, 1/2 of the suggested dosage as I thought it too much. She gets that and I alternatively use raw unrefined coconut oil. I just had her at the vets because the other day she collapsed and I had to carry her in my arms while I had Charlie my Greyhound on leash with us. She rebounded within a 1/2 hour and hasn't had another episode. The vet mentioned possibilities ie tumor on spleen or brain. She is not in pain so I said I would just watch her and the vet agreed. I am not wiling to do a lot of diagnostic testing on her at this age. I said to the vet if it was a tumor what would we do? Operation if on the spleen if that's what it is. No, not at her age. As long as she is pain free I am not willing to put her through a lot. I know how to massage her spine from back of neck to tail, shown to me by an acupuncturist. It is hard when they age and I can only keep her comfortable. Her nick name is the amazing Rhea as she always rebounds and keeps going. I thought about therapeutic swimming too build muscle in the hind end but a vet I know who has a facility like this doesn't think it would help at this stage. So for now she still loves short walks to keep her limber and yes she will drag her back feet a little but she is smiling and happy. Sometimes when Charlie is trotting she will try to keep up :-) Whatever you decide I am sure you will make the best decision for you and your pup.

  3. I came to read this post to see if anything good has happened. While the OP was upset about her friend, understandably, what has she done to help? I used to tell my co workers that I don't want to hear sad stories about dogs unless there is something I can do to help. I haven't changed my opinion. You say you have a busy life, don't we all. I for one couldn't stand by and not do something. So please-either take that long trip and save that poor dog or contact a rescue group that will!

  4. Hi ethanboston

Antibiotics often do cause diarrhea. Boiling beef, chicken or turkey, draining the fat and mixing with rice is helpful. There isn't enough nutrition to do that for more than a few days however. I and sure you will get many responses but I have always added green tripe in situations like that. It has natural probiotics and enzymes. Not the kind from a supermarket but sold in high end pet food supply stores. You could try probiotics for dogs too to see if it helps but use less than it states to start with. Do you feed kibble? If yes, I would mix boiled meat and rice in the kibble and slowly decrease according to how your pups stool is. Keep us posted and hope it passes soon!
