  1. Who knows, it could be from her active stay at the kennel and as ppl mentioned eating the extra kibble. Charlie always ate well, was in the hospital in Feb 2x and had an operation 1st week in March. He had dropped a lot of weight and ever since has been a pig! I caught him eating the rest of his sisters food the other day and he NEVER did that! He never went to her bowl. He has put on some of the weight he lost but is at a good weight now. Keep us informed on Ruby but thankfully it doesn't seem like anything to worry about. Just keep an eye on her as I know you will.

  2. Thanks Greytpups!

I almost posted last night because I was on alert mode yet again! In the afternoon Charlie was lethargic. Not like him at all. When my husband came home he usually picks up a toy and runs around but he just lay there on the couch. Also I noticed the area on his chest which had the tube in it was moist with fluid/blood. All the other suture areas are closed and healed well. I immediately called Tufts Grafton and the surgeon who did the laparoscopy was there and kindly called me back. He told me not to worry but if he didn't eat perhaps I should take him to the e vet. Charlie did eat and is back to himself although he has taken another decade off my life :-) I will take him to the cardiologist ASAP waiting for a call this morning. Dr McCarthy said that is what needs to be looked at now and that the effusion should not happen again. I'm so very tired. At least Charlie is fine now and no emergency visit. I was hoping to wait until April for this apt but looks like I need it sooner. It is frustrating because they did hear an irregular heartbeat initially but don't know why and they said it has nothing to do with the pericardial effusion. Seems like it would to me as he had been in cardiac tamponade but then I am no vet. UGH I just want this figured out.

ps I think I am just on high alert at this point when he is off

  3. My almost 13 yr old can't control her poops either. I just deal with it because she has no idea when it is coming. Luckily they aren't soft. I have pee pads under the blankets on her bed. She does wear a doggie diaper, which she doesn't mind, when I go out because she will sometimes pee when she is sleeping. My gf takes care of her elderly aunt who has the sme problem. I'd rather be dealing with this. She isn't in pain and is sometimes still very playful.

  4. I laughed too when I saw the title. My 5 yr old Greyhound does that @ night now. He gets excited when I put his collar on but then lays on his bed and wont move. I have the luxury of having a fenced in yard so he can go out there if he has to. Sorry, that doesn't help your dilemma at all. I suppose you have to remain tough in the morning and make her go do her thing. Is it still dark when you go out that early?

  5. My Charlie was healthy until he had an emergency. I had thought about getting pet insurance and now wish I had. I think it would have been about $45 a month. His case is unusual though and not common in Greyhounds. He had 2 emergency visits in Feb with a 2 night stay each time with 24/7 care and saw a cardiologist. Then he had his surgery 1st week in March to correct his problem-pericardial effusion. I am happy to say he is doing GREYT! All told it was $6000.00 for all the care and surgery.

  6. Aw thanks for asking Tracy-2 weeks ago today he came home from surgery he had the day before. Hard to believe! He is doing GREYT! Still have to make an appt with the cardiologist for the irregular heart beat they noticed but I will wait until April to take him. He needs a break fro doctors :-) Although they were all fantastic.

He can do whatever he wants now, run, rough house lol he doesn't rough house but those were restrictions.

  7. Get large ones and take it away when it is small, trade off with a treat if you have to. When small-bite size-put them in the microwave for a minute or so. They puff up and are safe so no choking hazard then, crumbly. Just don't over cook, they are done when they stop "growing" I feed raw also and they get these on occasion no problem. I'm a worry wart too :-)

Sometimes i break them on purpose and microwave them, they smell wonderful that way and i think my dogs prefer them.
