  1. Do you happen to have a close-up photo of that spot before just Brees scratched it raw?

IMO, whether my mention of ringworm is on target or if it's something else, I'd still get a culture since it was from a cat's bite/scratch. Too many other possibilities to not culture. I'd consider calling your vet's office early Wed. morning to ask if Lotrimin should be stopped before a culture sample is taken, or if it might be detrimental to Brees lesion if ends up being a different diagnoses. Sorry that Joe has a similar lesion. If it happens to be ringworm, it's not fun and could be worse if combined with infection. Good luck.

Ringworm is exceedingly rare in dogs. Most "ringworm" lesions end up being staphpyoderma. Stop any topical treatments and see your vet.

    Ok.

    This is Joe's spot

  2. Since Rob skipped the vet today, the earliest I can reasonably do is Thursday (unless it gets scary). I'm smearing lotrimin on both dogs in the meantime.

I'm actually glad I found the thing on Joe. Ringworm is gross, but managable.

It was "diagnosed" by a friend who acquired a kitten with it last summer. It spread to her other cats, herself and her husband, so she's pretty confident that's what is going on.

  3. Krissy, I just google eosinophilic furunculosis, and YUCK!!!! Those poor critters look so sad.

I'm going to text a link to this thread for husband so he won't forget to mention everyone's ideas.

This is this morning. All the antibiotic goo is off, and it has mostly dried out, except for a couple tiny spots that are oozing. I'm not going to goop it up again before she goes to the vet.

She slept well and stopped bothering her face once I gave her benedryl, so I took the cone off. No more heavy breathing, either.

  4. There was a small puncture where the swelling started, but it was healed and looked fine till Saturday. I know that it *could* still be from the cat, but it just seems like a long time.

Alicia, she did ten days on antibiotics for the cat bites about 3 weeks ago. The vet saw her last week after she tore out the stitches in her foot. I asked about more antibiotics then, but was told the ear was fine, and to do Epsom salt soaks on the foot. The foot is all healed now, and the ear is ok.

She was breathing heavily a bit ago, so I gave her a benedryl. She's comfortable now. That has me thinking bug bite/allergic reaction.

  5. Brees chomped a cat about 3 weeks ago. Stitches in various places, antibiotics, the usual. There's another thread about her ear. Anyhow, her snooter started swelling over the weekend. It wasn't bad, so I went the compress route rather than doing the e-vet. It also looked good today, so I did more compresses. Wrong move. I guess it itched, because she decided to take off the skin. I have her in a borrowed cone now (thanks Candice!!) and shoved a tramadol down her throat to chill her out.

So, is this from the cat event, or did something bite her while she investigated the bushes?

Vet tomorrow, right? More antibiotics, right?

    Dammit, Brees!!!

    Forgot the pics!!

I smeared triple antibiotic ointment on it.

  6. Last year, when Taylor was having treatments for Osteo (radiation and chemo), and then amputation, when we would get home I'd fax Embrace the claim form and the invoice for that day's visit.

Within 24 hours, I had an emailed acknowledgement from Embrace.

Within 3-4 days, I would get an email from Embrace confirming the claim had been covered.

Within a total time of a week to 10 days, I'd have a check from Embrace.

They reimbursed me $10,000.00 in 2015, paying 80% of all claims, at a cost of $1.37 a day for the premium.

We were going into the bank to deposit or cash checks every week. AND they have treats in the bank!!

I just added Embrace to the list of possibilities for Next Dog. :)

  7. Good work, you watched the video right? Walking on sidewalks should sand down the edges of the hole. I never applied salicylic acid to any of emily's corns,I just hulled them when there was a good border.

Yep, I watched the video. Very useful!

Your removal looks promising, but they are awful and often do return. If you happen to have wart remover because it's so fresh, you can put that on in the centre to kill any root that might be there. Worth a shot since it's exposed and the skin there is not hard. It helped slow down Kasey's regrowth so I thought i'd suggest it.

Kudos for aiding a pup in need! Is he walking better now?

That's an interesting idea. I've certainly used it on my funky feet. He took a decent walk after we got it out. Rebel is a little timid and not used to walking with me near his house, so he was weird. ;)

He has a tiny corn starting on his other front foot. That has been duct taped, because the margins aren't clear and it hasn't poked through the surface. Should that foot get soaked? How often, how long? When do you change duct tape?

My dogs don't have corns, thank goodness, and Rebel is Candice's first corn dog. Thanks, everyone, for running through all of this again for us!

  8. Someone who knows something about dog behavior will chime in soon, but for right now, is there anything you can think of of that changed in the house? In your routine? Are you using different air freshener? Change out an area rug? Get a new TV, hang a painting, buy a mirror? How is she in the car now? On walks? At the vet? If you have really-super-amazing-yummy-good treats in your hand, how does she react?

I only have questions. Sorry. Good luck!

  9. Amicar dosing is generally 500-650 mg, 3 times a day for 5 days. And yes, starting the day before the procedure. If compounded to a liquid it's only good for a week.

The price of Amicar shot up when a different manufacturer bought the company. Unless your vet has it in stock at the old price expect to pay $500-$650 for the 5 day course.

The day I needed Amicar for Percy was the day after the company was sold. It may take your pharmacy several days to get it in.

Dr Couto told me to have my vet write a prescription for Tranexamic Acid to control the bleeding. 650 mg, every 8 hours for 5 days. This may also have to be ordered by your pharmacy. It is an off-label use normally prescribed for women's heavy menstrual bleeding. The cost with a GoodRx.com coupon was only $70.

I myownself had to take TA a few years ago, and can say it's a pretty awesome drug. Did what it's supposed to do with no noticeable side effects. I'm glad to see it's being used for houndies now.

  10. He was a little gimpy after his vacation at MP's, but that's to be expected, and he was bopping around like a damn puppy just a few minutes after. I'm wondering if he saw a weird reflection in the plastic covering the very classy poster of Johnny Cash flipping the bird that hangs over the sofa. Or we have a ghost. :P Sure seemed like he was growling at me, though.

Toni will growl in her sleep a lot. And with her eyes open it can be disconcerting. It's also completely NOT personal - she's just growling, for whatever reason. I would keep it in mind, but really not think too much of an isolated incident. Pain could be a factor, if you think he's having leg issues.

He was wide awake, head was up. Joe does the sleep growling thing, too. It's adorable.

I obsess and overthink EVERYTHING with Joe. If it had been Brees, I would just write it off as insanity, but it's Joe and I'm a nutball when it comes to him.

  11. I was on the sofa watching TV and drinking coffee. Joe was on the dog bed in front of the TV. He had a cookie but wasn't eating it. He turned toward me, made eye contact, opened his mouth, and let out a low growl -- the "Get the heck away from me kind." Then he did it again. (I didn't yell or fuss. Just asked him what was wrong.) After that, he asked to go out, came back in, ate the cookie, requested another, didn't eat it, requested pets (while on the same bed, with the new cookie), came to me on the sofa for more love, and then bounced around the living room trying to get me to walk him. He's being totally normal.

Joe doesn't have space or food issues. If I need to, I can take anything I want away from him, and he just looks for something else to be offered. He does growl if I sit on him (who wouldn't?) or if I clip his nails more than he'd like. He grumps at Brees often, but again, who wouldn't? He sleeps under the covers with me for part of every night, and we get pretty tangled up. I'm sure I've kicked him in my sleep plenty.

I don't really know what I'm asking here. Any other time he has growled at a person, there was a clear and acceptable reason. This was just weird as hell.
