  1. I think Darla may be going blind in her right eye. I was playing with her in the kitchen and she looked up at me and I noticed when she looked toward the light that her right eye looks like it is starting to go foggy over the black area. We had a jack russell a long while back that this happened to and she was going blind. I have made an appointment with the vet for next week. I hope it is nothing too serious. We can deal if she goes blind in one eye. She hasn't had any trama or anything that might cause it and she doesn't seem to be in any pain. Just worried about her now. It doesn't seem to bother her excepts she startles a little easier.
  2. It will just take some time. In our old house Darla would hide in our bedroom for most of the day. The only time she would come out was to eat or go outside. That lasted for about a month. Just keep doing what you are doing. I have heard that behavior could last a few of months in the worst cases till they get used to you and the family. My suggestion would be lots and lots of walks. That way she is hanging out more with you guys.
  3. My girl darla does that in our new house. We tried the bitter spray and it did not work. we have tried many things and still have not found a permanent solution. She goes about a week or so with out doing it and then for no particular reason resumes. We have holes in our hall way that we are regularly having to replaster.
  4. baby oil is fine. if it is safe for a baby it should be fine for the hounds. I know from personal experience that rubbing alcohol takes sap off of cars, but would not recommend it for dogs though.
  5. I think that it is normal. My Catahoula is VERY food oriented. Anything that can be eaten or chewed on is devoured. Makes training a breeze though. He will do anything for a treat. As for the food coming out whole that is normal too.
  6. OMG I found mine like that as well. Darla is was muzzled while we were asleep or out of the house and one day I came home to the same sight.
  7. AWWWW I want one!!! If anyone hears about an available one let me know!!! OMG so Adorable.
  8. Just found another spot yesterday next to an OUTLET!!!!! Husband does not like the idea of a muzzle while we are gone. I told him the muzzle or the walls? Will the bitter apple or lemon stuff damage the paint? Funny think is she has Oscar and our puppy Chico (who is crated when we leave) so it is not like we leave her by herself. Lately we don't even leave for long periods of time.
  9. It is in odd places not where she sleeps. Behind the couch, wall next to the stairs, a random couple of spots in the hallway, they make no sense.
  10. I never thought of using the bitter apple spray.
  11. I have fixed all the spots as I find them. I haven't muzzeled her in about 8 months so I think I will be digging that muzzel out again and see if that works. She has lots and lots of toys for her and Oscar our other hound. She is actually eating it (I can see the teeth marks).
  12. For some reason my girl Darla is eating the drywall in the house. This is a BRAND NEW house I don't know what to do. She is doing it when we are asleep or not home. We can't crate her because she freaks out and at her foster home she broke 2 teeth trying to get out of a crate. My husband is FURIOUS. I heard that it is possibly a vitamin deficiency? We have had her for about a year and a half and just moved to this house 2 months ago.
  13. I free feed all three of my dogs from one feeder. None have any issues (2 greys and a mix catahoula) with weight and get along great. I guess we are just very lucky. They just pick at the food all day.
  14. It is a brand new house. I tried taking her for a walk and we got halfway down the street and she wanted to go back. She would not let me walk forward adn just kept turning around wanting to go back to the house.
  15. I am really hoping this is all that is going on. She seems to be eating and drinking fine.
  16. I don't know what is going on with our girl. Darla has been with us for a year and couple of months with no problems. We moved to a larger house this past month and now she is having accidents, chewed on cornerS, and I just saw a spot on the wall behind our couch that she has been licking. Oscar our oldest greyhound has had no issues with the move and our puppy(who has been wrongly accused of the issues before I saw Darla doing it) has been fine as well. I need some advice on how to fix this! She cannot be crated. She has broken teeth from when her fosters tried crating her and she just freaks out if I even attempt to put her in one. I am thinking maybe she is not getting enough one on one attention?
  17. Funny story here! My family went to visit my dad who owns a farm that has 3 ponds and lots of acres. Well it was mid summer and all the ponds had that nasty green algea on top so they kinda blended into the rest of the pasture a bit. Well Oscar was having a blast running with the cows and such in the pasture and ran right into one of the big ponds at full speed. It looked like the old cartoons where they float for sec before falling in. Scared us to death! My dad was about to jump in after him when we were yelling for Oscar to turn around cause he was paddling toward the deeper end. He finally turned towards us and got ashore. It was only a minute or two but felt longer when we were on the shore. Till this day Oscar is very scared of those ponds at my dad's.
  18. Praying for Bruiser and his Human here!
  19. It took my first greyhound about 8 months to truly come out of his shell. So give her time to settle. A required reading when we got our first was Retired Greyhounds for Dummies. It answered a lot of questions and gave us stuff to think about for when our guy got here. CONGRATS!!
  20. i make these for my hounds all the time: Peanut butter and oatmeal 2 cups flour 1 cup oatmeal 1/3 cup peanut butter 1 and 1/4 hot water preheat oven to 350 mix dry ingredients then add wet ingredients. if too stiky add more hot water knead the dough, roll to about 1/4 inch, and cut into desired shapes bake about 40 minutes and let cool completely good in an airtight container for a week, fridge for 3weeks, freezer for 6 months
  21. I have 2 greyhounds. My Oscar did that one time when Darla was laying on his bed. Once I got her to move he settled in and that was it.
  22. I would suggest you let the toddler meet the dog in a nuetral area to introduce them. Better yet see how your dog does with other small children if you have a friend or know some one with kids. That way it won't be that much of a shock when this little person comes over. lol
