I am so sorry for your loss. All greyhounds are special, but Dave seems to be a little more than special. I know how much you'll miss him.

I am very sorry for your loss. They truly are our best friends.
  4. Major Turn - 179 Races - Adopted and finally loved at age 5 and 4 1/2 months. I tried so hard for Major Turn to live for his 12th birthday, but it wasn't to be. That evil, horrendous big "C" grabbed him away from me. I say me, even though Maj belonged to my husband and me, because, in reality, he was definitely mine. When the phone rang late in May of 2000, we did not want another dog. We had just lost our beloved greyhound Barko the day before and the tears were still flowing and the last thing either of us needed was another dog -- or did we! It was the adoption director from Geneva Lakes who had heard about Barko's passing. She apologized for calling so soon, but she had a very introverted, shy dog that she could not find a home for and she thought we might be able to "bring him around." For some reason, we agreed to go and look at him... There were two dogs in the adoption office when we arrived -- one outgoing and friendly; the other sitting on the bed, pasted up against the wall wishing he could disappear. I knew immediately that the handsome black brindle boy against the wall was Major. I sat down next to him and talked with him, gave him scritches and he licked my hand. That was it. I remember a woman in the adoption center said, "I like that dog." "He's very handsome." I said, "You can't have him, he's mine." We immediately filled out the paperwork and Maj came home the next day. Shy wasn't the word. Terrified was more like it. He wouldn't move from his bed without me getting the leash. Outside, if the birds chirped, he was up on his hind legs and then pulling me in a low croach towards the door to go in. If the frogs croaked, it was the same thing. Don't even talk about a stranger trying to be nice to him. That's another story. It was months of love and patience before he settled in and would even stay in the room if company came. Maj was a lot of work. Was he worth it? You bet he was. He turned into my best friend and confidant. My heart boy. My love bug. Mine! He was never without a stuffy in his mouth -- the bigger the stuffy the better. He gave loves and kisses and took up most of the king size bed. His best present in the world was his little sister, Carla. He was devoted to her and even took to June Bug when she arrived. He liked to lick her ears. I will miss my boy until the day I die. I have no doubt that his spirit has "jumped into" another shy dog, somewhere, to help him cope with life........ I sure wish I knew where that dog is. Be free sweet boy. Play at the bridge and don't be afraid. Your mom will always love you.
  5. Please relay my condolences. I know what it's like to lose your very best friend.
  6. I am so sorry for your loss. It doesn't matter how many you have, the loss is huge. Hope your other puppies are okay. My Carla misses her brother so bad that she has moped and hardly eaten this past week.

I am so sorry. I know the heartbreak is terrible. I've just gone through it. Will be thinking about you.
  8. Your tribute is beautiful for this beloved guy, Ozzy. This cancer thing is horrendous. It's running wild and out of control. I, too, am one of those foolish people you speak of. How can we get through life without being so. Run free, sweet boy.
  9. I am so very sorry. I lost my boy yesterday, and I know the pain you are feeling. Let's hope they are playing together.
  10. My brave, handsome boy is gone. His humungus cancerous tumor ulcerated and it wouldn't have been fair to make him stay. I am totally devasted, but it's not about me. It's about my boy. I miss him terribly.
  11. I'm sorry, Diane. You've lost so many, but it never gets easier, does it.
  12. Jerrie & Rich, I can't tell you how sorry I am. This is the worse news possible. I feel so bad for you. Give your greys a hug -- no lots of hugs. God speed, sweet boy.

  15. This poor boy. I still remember him trying to get into the feeding troth before the start of his GUR. At that time, we only thought it was an eye condition. Things sure do change quickly. So very sorry.
  16. Sarah, I am so sorry. All greyhounds are special, but the very first greyhound is especially so. So many greyhounds at the bridge. What a reunion we will all have one day. God Speed.

I am so sorry for your loss. 14 1/2 years is a long time, but it doesn't stop the pain.
  19. Denise, your tribute to Wanda is heart wrenching but beautiful. I know the special bond you had with her. I can still see you and Wanda walking through the woods when we were trying to locate Frank the Fugitive. You had instincts about Frank and Wanda had hers to. You were quite a team. I know how much you will miss her, but look at the joy she gave you and you gave her during the years you were together. It was fate. It had to be. Amazing that others had problems with her and to you she was perfect. God speed little black brindle girl. And, thanks for the cactus flower. It brings hope to all of us.
  20. I just read this post, and I am so very sorry.
