  1. Still thinking of you and Princess. I woke up and thought of her during the night last night. I am hoping for strength for you both. I am so sorry it wasn't a better morning.
  2. I've taught my boy some commands. I guess the question I have about clicker training is do you always need the clicker? In other words, after the behavior is taught, do you still need the clicker? I'm not sure if that questions is clear. But I guess an example is if you want to give the command and don't have a clicker is this a problem?
  3. I agree that the albumin sounds low. I hope things are better this morning and go well with the vet today.
  4. Good luck today. I hope that you get lots of informative answers from the vet. And it's good to hear of Callie's improvement (and she does look more engaged in her picture). I'm sure she'll be happy to be home. I can tell you that Sadie never would eat much when we went away and left her with the organization from which we adopted her. And she knew those people and had spent months there before. If she was at the vet's office she surely would not have eaten a bite. So, I'm sure she'll do much better once she's home.
  5. Well, he's not happy when he's kept away from us. If he knows we're around and he can't see us he cries. And he does what we call "puppy barks". But he isn't glued to us all the time. he spends hours alone in other rooms by choice. So I think that the idea of of a barrier is the most upsetting thing. But what do I know. He's actually best when we eat in some ways. He knows to lay down and stay away for the most part. It's when we're preparing that he makes himself more of a pest. He he is on top of you every step of the way when you're in the kitchen. he has to always supervise.
  6. Thank you! We think he's super handsome! And as I might have mentioned he is a total flirt, especially with the girls at the vet's. I can try only giving him food in the crate- it's in our bedroom at the end of a very long house- it's a long walk for treats! And I know there is debate about this, but we do feed from a raised feeder, obviously this is harder in a crate. (did you leave bedding in the crate?) How long did it take Leo to relax? We're going to be doing more active alone training with Kevin because he is not comfortable being left outside his crate and us walking outside and taking pictures of the house and coming back 10 minutes later. We came back to hooting and hollaring. I don't think he does this in his crate. He did cry some at first when he would first be in his crate but now I think that has stopped. But I will have to record to be sure. (I have a digital recorder but no video camera). My husband wonders whether he will adjust to being outside his crate. I don't think he wants a crate in the bedroom forever.
  7. Thinking of you, your family and Harley. Strength for all of you.
  8. You and Princess are in my thoughts. Strength for you both.
  9. I think he's still on the site. You can also see his picture in the thread under "Kevin Soiled his Crate". McSheltie posted one for me. I've just never dealt with a chewer before. We're working with him. He's also food obsessed. He surfs the floor and has to be in the kitchen if you're in the kitchen. He's glued to you. He's lucky he's a total flirt and very charming! At least today he was willing to take a long walk. I guess because the road looked different with huge walls of snow?? BTW- he is now sleeping in his bed- so the heavy-duty chewing did help! He usually gets restless if we lock him in the bedroom with us at night. He likes to be in the livingroom.
  10. How did you find their teeth were chipped? I gave him a bone tonight and he enjoyed it immensely. I was worried about his teeth. He did break some pieces of bone off. I traded-up some roasted chicken to retrieve it. He wasn't real happy about losing the bone but was good about it. The closest Costco is over 50 miles away so internet is best. I was thinking of ordering odor free.
  11. Absolutely love her! Congratulations!!
  12. Copper. He was given it after he got off the truck but he didn't respond to it yet. He seemed to respond better to Kevin. But he doesn't know that either yet really! Good thing he's charming. We've played some trading-up. For us it consists of him staring at me while I give him a treat and take away the stuffie (or paper). If there's food he doesn't care about the stuffie. He just stares and waits for more treats. I remove the stuffie and put it behind my back and give him a treat and tell him he's a good boy. Stuffie magically re-appears and lands on his paws but he's on planet treat. More time in his crate learning to relax- interesting. I do have a kong in the freezer stuffed with some of his food and plugged with PB. He doesn't care for nylabones or even antlers. He occasionally mouths them. He has the big tough ones. Almost never touches them. Unless it smells really tasty or he can ruin it he's not that interested. I did convince him to go for a long walk today though- which he usually refuses. He was slightly more willing to lay quietly. But not much. I also have some beef marrow bones from the store to give him in his crate when I can watch him later. BTW- he also has chewed nylons I left on the bed and will get excited, thrash around and chew on the chest of PJs he's wearing (I've seen him bite himself too when being silly). This is getting to be an expensive habit!
  13. Oh I am so sorry you, your family and Callie are going through this. I have had such flashbacks, different Petco and different special girl. And I'm keeping you all in my thoughts. Strength to Callie in surgery and on three legs thereafter.
  14. I've been holding off on these for fear of the big D wile getting his diet settled. Have you ever tried the sweet potato leathers? I'm considering those too. I guess I worry with Dr. K he will just assume all towels are fair game but I'm willing to try becaue I think the squeaker is the exciting part, it's easy and cheap and it's cheap!! Teaching fetch- I'll have to read-up on that.
  15. I will try making the muzzle more comfortable. I think there is a little makeshift lining in there. Exercise. Well, he gets what he is willing to do. He was named Kevin after the character on "The Office" who loves food and hates exercise. We have a yard for him to run in. But he hates the cold. We try to toss a toy for him. Occasionally he will run once across the yard and he's back at the door. He hates the cold being right off the track in FL. He is bundled up but he thinks he's on the Bataan Death March when I try to walk him down the road. I put on two coats (one with snood) and usually he refuses to leave the front yard. He statues. If I get him to walk we get around the corner and he freezes at the top of the hill. We're going lunchtime today. We'll see what happens with the snow. He ran outside a little yesterday. But usually even if I can get him to do the whole street (so down and back is a mile) it does not seem to change his behavior much. I think it's just how he is.
  16. I appreciate everyone's suggestion very much. Here's what I'm going to do for now. I'm going to cut out his lunch, except for a kong stuff with his food/PB. And he'll get some snacks- he already gets very small snacks sometimes during the day and a coupe of liver ships at bedtime. I am already working to cut out lunch. I'm going to keep him on the Honest kitchen because he's doing well on it in terms of stool consistency and gas. But, I am going to mix the food so it's a tighter oatmeal consistency and I'm going to start mixing in more Thrive with the Embark. Thrive has Quinoa and is higher calorie and lower fiber and no flaxseed. I may eventually just transition to it. I will also add more meat to his diet (reducing the HK- it is actually designed for add-ins, particularly raw). Hopefully all of this will result in less poop less often. And hopefully we will still have a happy digestive system as well. I think he will because he came off the track in Nov. (where he presumably had the raw meat based diet) and he did not do well on the kibble. But then he went to a hamburger potato diet and did fine. Then onto the dehydrated raw and did well, except for volume and frequency (which may be a result of volume and frequency on feeding). So, hopefully all will go well. If not, I will consider a food change.
  17. I'm very sorry you went through that and are going through this. How awful. I will keep her in my thoughts. Paws crossed for my boy's half-sister. Yes, brown coffee-ground vomit or black tar-like stool indicate internal bleeding. You should clarify with your vet whether this a result of the NSAID or the combination of the aspirin and the NSAID. What was the Metacam dosage? This is a risk with any NSAID but usually occurs with extended use and higher doses.
  18. That is Kevin's MO. Seek and destroy utilizing molars. I have not heard of this. I will look into it. Thanks!
  19. Thanks for posting for me! I tried to get some of him in the mega snow we got today but he is wearing his coats. Plus he is so fast!
  20. Often worms will not show up in a stool sample. As they are not wall to wall in the poop. I would ask for a dose of wormer and save the money on the stool sample. Drontal-Plus is good one time all wormer. Any downside to worming if he doesn't have worms?
