Miss a doggie I never met so much, thinking about you Riddick...bet you are having a blast at the bridge!

It's not that hard to teach recall. Start with tiny steps 1) Call her from a few feet away "Izzy, come here!" in a happy voice, when she does, give her a treat. 2) Go further in the house 3) On leash 4) Fenced yard 5) Baseball diamond 6) Dog park. We work on recall every time we go to the diamond or dog park...about 3 times a week.
-
Is it that you are worried that the fear phase will stay with her forever?
-
Spring strike, my Bella does this each year.
-
Yup, he's been licking it. Now laying on the carpet.
Just wanted to add, this is the neatest thing ever. You have updates on here, kinda like having your own greyhound sitters
-
Greys are usually mellow. If you want a bouncy dog try a jack russell
-
Good thoughts for something "simple" like a twisted footsie.
-
Good thoughts your way!!
-
He ate...or drank, not too sure what is in the bowl.
-
What's her racing name? She MUST be related to my Bella...aka "A Star Blackieto"! Bella doesn't walk like a regular greyhound, more like a blood hound!
-
I've been following along and hoping for the best. It just looks like they are now together on the couch

Have a looksie: http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php/topic/296518-the-fins-we-domai-sister-and-i/
It depends on the dogs personality, both dogs that is Do you have a certain breed and you are looking to add a greyhound?
-
Some of us are just picture obsessed lol...welcome! What's his racing name?
-
I'm very sorry to hear, but my gosh...what a great life you have given her!
-
Bella was like this when she had neck pain. How is he when getting in/out of bed? Going up/down stairs?
-
Thanks for the info everyone! Bella does #2 in the same area, Cleo (the italian mastiff) just goes anywhere. That's the main part of this training.
-
How do I train Bella and Cleo to do both #1 and #2 in a certain area of the yard? I have it fenced off right now. I'm thinking bring them there, then when they do their thing, give treat. What word could I use though?? Any other tips/ideas? It's by the fence, so I thought "pee pee fence!" but then if my neighbours hear...they might think I'm training them to pee ON the fence! lol

Recall is top. It's a "trick" that can save their lives if they are ever loose. Knowing to shake a paw will never help them in life lol.
-
Don't let people on here scare you, you know her somewhat...you make the decisions. Try a small enclosed baseball diamond, or contact a local animal rescue to see if you can use their yard when it's clear.

I do tuna and sardines straight from the can about 2 times a week ontop of my greys kibble.
-
Just curious....is it me, or does it seem like more male greyhounds are attacked?
-
. Sadly, I've read all too often on GT that dogs who come running up to GTer's greyhounds are automatically seen as a threat.
I hear ya. My greyhound has much more um, how do I say this...grouchiness than my italian mastiff. No question, if they were loose and would run up to a dog or person...I'm positive they'd worry more about my mastiff, than greyhound. Based only looks, very sad.
-
It really sucks that one has to 'arm themselves' to take the dog out for a nice enjoyable walk.
I agree.
I want to point something out for the newbies. When I joined GT and read about attacks, I was scared of walking my greyhound (first dog ever also fyi). But then, I realized...it has a lot to do with the area in which you live as well. In almost 3 years, I've never been charged by a dog. While it's good to be vigilant, also note how many people walk their dogs on a daily basis and aren't attacked. I hope not all new to dogs/greyhound people reading this thread don't get scared away from dog ownership!!
