I'm so sorry to hear about Kara
-
Thank you for all the info everyone, I will probably send an email to OSU...as this might give them some info for their reseach. I'll also consult with Bella's vet and go from there.
-
No medical knowledge, but I'm sorry, I know how disturbing those deaths must be to hear about.
The half sister that passed on Friday was about to have babies, they didn't make it...Bella's racing owner was almost in tears when she told me
-
Bella's racing owner just called me to inform me that Bella's half sister passed on Friday of an aneurysm, apperently another half sister and Bella's mother all died of one as well. Anyways, could this be a hereditary thing? Is there something that can be done to prevent one?
I don't know if this is related (I'm not a vet), but last month when Bella was at the vet getting blood word done (she wasn't drinking cause she was on pain meds for her neck, pain meds make her tummy hurt), the vet said she had very thick/slow moving blood.
Thoughts?
Here is her pedigree, her half sisters that passed are A Star Black Jet and A Star Black Nite:

What is it called? Is it still called Ol Roy?

What a beautiful pic!
To the OP: If it gets too cold for them, even with those coats, you can always add another layer underneath. AND for even more, you can get a set of pajamas with legs, wear those under the coat.

They are brutal up north (near Ottawa). They literally gave Bella bruises on her tummy...we were at the race track and wanted to take an evening walk, but quickly booked it outta here, those things are nasty. No idea what would stop them.

Does he really need to be crated? Why not give him say 5 minutes home alone, and if he's good then no need for a crate...then increase the time.
-
Robin, maybe we can brainstorm and find some very quiet/no people places for him to walk? I'm thinking farmers fields lol
-
What about having a bicycle in your yard or house, and having some treats laying near it? That way he goes to the bike on his own. You could later try moving it around...that's an easy way to start.
-
Aren't you sooo happy with a sprian?! I sure was with my Bella's pulled neck muscle! lol Get better soon Harold
-
My fingers are bleeding from sewing coats for the auction, so....ME too!!!
-
Hmmm, what about having someone walk infront of you (in a safe for him distance)...would he pull towards the person or walk calmy?

What Batmom said, when you think about it moisturizer helps soft things right? You need the opposite effect.

This will get interesting. Kinda scary and great at the same time. For example, say that such and such greyhound back in oh 1910 had this gene and he had thousands of off spring, well how are you going to breed greys that aren't already related to him? And how would that even work? Laws about not being able to breed certain dogs?
-
Does he pull to keep up with Treasure? Maybe have her on a shorter leash on one side and him on a longer one on the other and see if that works?
-
No advice, but where is that beautiful dog park? Let's take pics there

The easiest way I make frozen treats: Take a small yougurt (those little cups), put in freezer, freeze. Then pull out of freezer, give to dog in bowl. Does that get any easier?

YES YES YES! This is the only thing that freaks Bella out...hands are ok, but feet OMG, she will jump several feet in the air lol.
Yup, Wendy is not foot-friendly! She will give a little growl of displeasure if she's lying down and I try to pet her with my feet and will look offended and walk away if I try it when she's upright.
Just noticed your signature. It might have something to do with her racing name! "Lost footing"

Tuna water, canned salmon water, ensure with water, gatorade, bacon drippins with water...so many options to make them drink

Maggie, Shelby is trucking along. She's a tough old girl and as long as her back doesn't cause her problems, she is good. Sort of like the Energizer Battery, just make sure she has her Gabapentin and she's good to go. She has started to run around our property here in Maine and doesn't show any signs she is grieving. The only one who is, is Peanut, Lynn's little girl. She is extremely sensitive and loved her big brothers. Every time we got the leashes out to take Jack for a ride, she was right there with him whether it was back home or here in Maine. Now she's taken to laying at the front door on the mat seeming to be waiting for Jack to come home....it is very sad to see her there and I know it's hurting Lynn. We try to keep her and ourselves occupied by beach walking twice a day and I think that is helping but she, like us, will always miss sweet Jack.
Peanut
Lynn had her blog going for a while and I read it everyday, can you please let her know that yamaha_gurl (same name on there) is thinking of her too?

How is Shelby doing? And the little ones? Hugs to you and Lynn

Nancy, I love it when you post pics...they are awesome

I discussed this with the bf over dinner (he's a big greyhound lover...just not a interneter), he says imagine if it were a leg that was incorrectly amputated? Say it was for osteo...and they took the wrong leg...how could the greyhound get better? Ugh. This makes me sooo mad. When the stress of everything calms down, please report them...I don't want this happening to anyone else.
Wish there were something I could do.

Makes no difference here...even if say it was Gable that has the osteo gene, I'd still adopt a Gable dog. It's kind of like some people who adopt a senior, they know time is limited, but still want to give that grey a loving home...I'd do the same with a osteo pup.
