  1. This was always the instruction with Gabapentin. Starting at a lower dose and building up is the only way we've ever had it prescribed. If I'm remebering correctly, we upped the dose about every three weeks until we got it to the desired dose while watching for any negative side effects with each dog that has taken it.

  2. The Virbac chews always worked well for us. Some of the dogs who arrive here had teeth that were just too far gone to avoid dentals / extractions. Rocket had great teeth but still needed to have a couple of full anesthesia cleanings over the years. He had one at age 11 without any issues. Good luck!

  3. That look and the flinging of toys starts 1 hours and 15 minutes before mealtime. Every day, like clockwork. :lol

At the opposite end ofthe spectrum there's Mark who will eat 2,3, or 4 hours later than usual. He seems to be a brunch and midnight buffet kind of guy.

I am hoping we're finally rid of them here. Need to get another clear test on both sibs. :hope

    Paws crossed.

We're at a point where I have a sample checked every 6 months unless I see signs or we have unexplained tummy issues. One of these 2 (coughMarkcough) likes to go out and snack on Arizona Poop Jerky if we miss anything in the back yard, so we are pretty diligent with the picking up. Somehow, he still manages to occasionally find one. I swear he has a stash.

I saw a few pictures of that gathering on Reddit! I looked for hounds I recognized...

Mark and LaVida stayed at home with me. They aren't really into traveling or the car. You may have seen Snickers in the pics as she was there all weekend.

We took Rocket to the Kanab gathering once, and after a day he was ready to come home. Rocket was extremely social but I think the Kanab event was overwhelming for him. After that trip, he and I stayed home while Chris went to the event with Trolley's Mom and Snickers' Mom.

  6. Many of our previous dogs struggled with heat in the 70's and above. Some of that depended on whether or not they were in direct sun.

Here in the desert we try to stick to shaded areas when walking, and at this time of year the only good time to walk is before or right at sunrise. As soon as the sun pops over the horizon it is just about too hot here to walk for the rest of the day. Rocket always wanted his walk regardless of weather, so we would load him in the van and drive to a tree lined street so that we could walk in continuous shade. He got 2 rides and a walk that way and he was happy.

When we've had dogs that overheated, we usually use cold wet towels and washcloths on their necks, belly and paws while aiming a fan at them on high. You do have to constantly change the towels or washcloths out as they do no good one they warm up against the skin. We keep a small fan ready to go and sit it right on the floor in front of them when this happens.

At this time of year, we really don't do many walks here as the dogs start panting as soon as we are in the sun. Mark, who is a black dog, will go and lay on the back yard in the hot sun at least twice a day.  We do limit his time and make him come inside, but he has little interest in going for a walk in this weather, but likes to go out and warm up a little since our AC won't shut off again until November.

    Good luck!

(Did Misser Koala not want a blankie?) :lol

I guess not.  Lavida slept like that for almost 2 hours. I don't know how that's comfortable but apparently it is.

Some new stuffies came home from Kanab. Watch for our new friends in the background of future pics. :lol
