My gosh it's been three years since Abby died. We miss you!
  2. i have the same problem with my two. the walk would take 5 hrs if i let them sniff as much as they want. so, i let them sniff for a short time, and then i give a tug and say "let's walk!". sometimes, i pick a landmark in the distance, and then make them walk swiftly with me until that point, and then we can stop for some sniffing as a reward.
  3. update: gave them comfortis in their dinner tonight. so far no ill effects. hopefully this will help get rid of the flea problem. thank you for sharing your experiences. do you guys crush the pill and put it in their food? it seemed too big to just try to give it whole. tra
  4. Hello, we are having a bit of a flea problem here. For those who HAVE tried Comfortis, was it effective? thanks in advance for sharing your experience, tracy
  5. i'm the original poster, and i am very glad to know that many people do not feed their dogs the premium, most expensive foods. My financial situation has changed over the past year, and i have been paying more attention to how much i spend at the pet store. i mean, i want what's best for my dogs, but the expense gets kind of ridiculous. my mind is more open now to what works best, and not being such a food snob.
  6. yes you are right, RR isn't really so cheap!
  7. The other night, I was completely out of our usual TOTW kibble. So i bought something at the regular supermarket just to tide them over. It was Rachel Ray's brand, and the ingredients didn't look too terrible. It looked like a kid's breakfast cereal! Not only did they love it, but also their poops have been SPECTACULAR!!!!
  8. Abby used to surf the countertop for bread (or meat, or anything). she was known to eat entire loaves of bread, whole rotisserie chickens, and whole boxes of Entenmanns coffee cake. One night, we returned to find her on the front couch with a bag of pretzels, delicately taking them out one by one.
  9. Same food, one cup at 5:30 AM, one cup at 4 PM. Warm water. Salmon oil in the evening, a 50 mg Deramaxx in the AM! Laughing Cow cheese wedge and Gabapentin after super. Mmmmm. Cheeeeeeeeeze! i love the laughing cow treat idea!!! i've been looking for something easy and yummy for a bedtime snack for them. the only problem is, how many of them will i end up popping into MY mouth.
  10. Hi, i was wondering if most people feed their dogs breakfast. if i have time, i'll make them something in the morning (like an egg mixed with kibble), and they happily eat it. but if i'm in a rush, sometimes i leave kibble in their bowls in the morning, and often they'll leave it there all day, until i mix it with other stuff at dinner time. do you add anything from your own dinner, if it's healthy? i guess i'm curious about other people's feeding schedules...when you feed, and what. please share if you have time! tracy
  11. this is not a major problem, but i've always wanted to ask. when you take your dog(s) for a walk, are they more interested in sniffing than actually walking and getting some excercise?? all mine really want to do is sniff, and they don't really seem to care for the actual walk. maybe this subject is not very important, but every time i take them, i think about posting this.

I was crushed to find this out today, after a brief absence from Greytalk. She was one of my favorites, and my heart goes out to you.
  13. at mealtime, i never hear any crunching or chewing. i think they just inhale everything whole! they don't throw up or anything, so i guess it's not a problem. just wondering....
  14. I second the Taste of the Wild Salmon formula, with add-ins. I am always noticing how shiny the girls' coats are. I'm sure every dog is different, though.
  15. Lola is 7 and we've had her for almost 2 years. She has a quirky personality in general, and she's always been prone to peeing in the house now and then. We've had her checked for physical problems. Recently though, my partner and i split up, so there was a change in the household that probably upset her.
  16. do i ever wake up in the middle of the night and need to pee? hmmmmm. good point....
  17. Hi, and hope everybody emerged unscathed from July 4th. My problem is this: around 11pm, i either walk the girls or let them out back for their final bathroom break of the day. Then, at around 3 or 4am, i hear the "click click click" of Lola coming into my room , wanting to go out the back door. If i let her out, she does pee and come back. But if i tell her to go back to bed, and don't get up and let her out, she pees in the house. Is this a behavior i should just learn to accept, or is there something i can do?? Thank you for any suggestions. Tracy
  18. hugs to you. may her memories get easier for you as more time passes.
  19. hugs to you. your feelings are understood.

Oh man, i can't believe it's been 2 years. We miss her every day. I'll probably think about her every day for as long as i live.
  21. Hello, about a week ago, i moved out of my house. my partner still has the dogs...when i get situated we will share custody. ever since i left, Lola has been peeing in the house every day, and acting very agitated. it seems too coindidental, not to think that it is because of the household change. any advice?
  22. well, here's how it went, just FYI, i gave each of the girls .5 mg xanax because i was being cautious; they had never taken it before. i think it was slightly effective, but next time i'll use twice as much. they still shook and panted for hours, even with the windows closed, the tv loud, and the dishwasher on.
  23. hugs to everybody who has to post on this topic. although my current dogs are okay now, i know what that cancer diagnosis feels like, having been through it with Abby exactly 2 years ago. All I can say is, we are all here for you and understand.
  24. Hello and Happy New Year!! both my dogs shake uncontrollably for hours if they hear even distant firecrackers going off. In anticipation of tonight, i was wondering how much xanax it would be safe to give them. They both are around 70 lbs. On July 4th, we tried the doggie tranquilizers that our vet gave us, and i wasn't happy with the results. I'll put in a call to my vet today as well. Thanks and have a safe night everyone. tra
  25. that is one of the saddest things i've ever read. hugs to you and hope you find peace.
