  1. I'm really sorry that happened; Maryville was one of those hounds that always left a great impression on me while not personally having a dog that had osteo, i've heard over and over again about dogs that did not test as having osteo until months after they began to limp. i can't begin to imagine the disappointment, anger and confusion, as well as heartbreak, you must feel.
  2. that's just so awful. i'm so sorry
  3. he looks really good. i'm sure his homecoming is great for both of you
  4. it must be a relief to have a diagnosis, even if it's not a great one. i don't blame you for being pissy about it. the good thing is that from my point of view, the pissiness (if that's a word) is manifesting itself in determination to help Beau as best you can.

I'm so sorry. Please don't second guess your decision. You saved Romeo from lots of pain.
  6. sure, i would. there are a whole mess of TBDs. the NC State website that I referred to seems to have all of the info you need. i know lots of dogs here on GT have had a variety of TBDs because greyhounds move around so much. I had difficulty getting Phene tested and diagnosed here because babesia isn't native to Ontario, nor are the brown ticks that carry it, but where we live now is completely irrelevant. We used Prototek labs in Arizona also. We were lucky as the little critters were visible in Phene's blood.
  7. Where exactly should the test go and what exactly should we test for? Please be specific so I can pass it on to the vet. Robin, here's some more info. Phoenix had babesia when I adopted him, which is a TBD. I forgot to mention it and I'm sorry. His symptoms included limping, exhaustion, depression and listlessness. He couldn't even walk across the street without needing to take a long rest. He was treated with two shots of imidocarb two weeks apart and has been fine ever since. NC State info Please have Beau tested if he hasn't been already.
  8. has he worsened since the loss of Polli? i once had a cat who sat herself on a shelf after our other cat, her good friend, has passed away. she didn't move for several days. when i took her to the vet i found out that it was a stress induced condition that effected the liver and that it could have been fatal had it not been caught on time. do you think something like that could be going on?
  9. Jessica, I'm so sorry
  10. Around this time last year Loca was diagnosed by a local veterinary radiologist as having chondrosarcoma. My vet sent her x-rays for Dr Couto for a second opinion. He said that they were normal and that the "tumour" was actually normal lung superimposed on her collar bone. My vet sent a second set of x-rays to Dr. Couto and once again he said they were normal. We met several months later at a talk in Guelph, Ontario and he remembered her! Loca is now a happy and healthy 13.5 year old with absolutely no health problems. Here is Dr. Couto with Loca

  14. ooh, i hope the lovely Tuna gets better very soon. i think she looks great in yellow
  15. Phoenix's dental was done today and cost $751.96 CDN including six extractions and meds.
  16. Poor Phene had a dental this morning resulting in his six bottom incisors being pulled. He still has his canines. The vet supplied me with Tramadol (40mg 2x daily) and Metacam (30kg 1x daily). Tonight he's allowed to eat 1/2 of his usual meal with liquid added and his food has to be softened for the next 7-10 days. Is there anything else I can do to make him comfortable? Will he need to be given soft treats in the future? Will he drool for the rest of his life? Is there anything else I should consider or do for him? thanks robin
  17. i'm so sorry. you didn't have nearly enough time together
