  1. Just a quick update to say thank you for all of the prayers for my boy and that he is doing very well today. His nose has now stopped bleeding for 29 hours! and that it just doesn't return. Hoping to have TBD results tomorrow so I'll update about that when we have info. Gingey: Thanks for that photo, I hadn't seen it before!! Bigorangedog: Initially his platelets were 585k (a little high) but then about 18 hours later it was within normal range at 268k. I found one entry in his records from the evet that says PCV 60% and according to my research from Dr. C that's normal for greys. Thank you again everyone!
  2. Keeping this sweet girl in my thoughts and prayers. Hope she is better soon.
  3. First I want to say thank you to everyone who has prayed for our boy and us. He is very special to us. I believe the prayers are helping him get slowly better. We took King to the evet for a continuous bloody nose that didn't want to stop. We brought him home last night because he was stable but his nose was still bleeding. This morning we took him to the Internal Medicine specialist. They did a lot of testing and his clotting values are better but his blood pressure is too high. They sent off a tick panel which we have to wait 2-3 days for the results and a Von Willebrands test (a disease where the blood doesn't clot properly) but we have to wait 3-5 days for those results. It would be great if it is something as simple as babesia but I can only hope we are that lucky. If it isn't TBD or Von Willebrands we will have to do a CT or rhinoscopy or possibly both to look for the dreaded C. Unfortunately we have to wait for the Von Willebrands test because he has to go under general anesthesia for the CT and rhinoscopy and if he isn't clotting properly we aren't comfortable putting him under. The good news: They took chest x-rays that were clear which means that if it is cancer it hasn't spread to his chest. Also, for an unknown reason when we picked him up his nose has stopped bleeding. It has been 4 hours and it hasn't started again. We have him on doxycycline in case it is TBD and a med for lowering his blood pressure. They also recommended Afrin if his nose does start to bleed again. In the car he dripped his usual watery nose drips on me and I couldn't have been happier about it! I'll update if he gets worse (we really hope he doesn't) and then when we get test results back. I have to go to work tomorrow but will give a status as often as possible. I know the rules, here are some photos of my precious boy. Thank you all again, this journey will probably go at least through this week and maybe longer, we hope you will continue to keep him in your prayers. Cuddling with Papa The first time he ever dug himself a cool spot in the dirt One of his absolute favorite positions One of my all time favorites of him One last photo, another favorite of mine Thank you all again!
  4. No new news. Just wanted to add that the e-vet has considered babesia and administered antibiotics for that possibility. Should have an update sometime this evening after the next round of blood work. Thank you to everyone for the prayers and white light, keep it coming.
  5. I can't go into detail right now but they think it might be a bleeding disorder. His platelets dropped in half over 7 hours so we are worried that they will continue to drop which would be life threatenting. I will update when we have additional information but I fear it will be sparse because there isn't much more they can do other than watch carefully. Right now I'm just asking for GT prayers which work so well for these babies. King is my heart dog. Thank you.
  6. She's home! I got to pick her up on my way home from work. She hasn't had any vomiting or diarreah and she has been eating well, so she gets to come home! We went for a short walk and now we're all just resting here. She's down to 50.9 pounds, that's at least 12 less than she should be. Hopefully now that everything inside is taken care of she will have a stronger appetite and we will be able to put some weight on her. Thank you all so much for your support, it helped us get through this rought time. We love greytalk!
  7. Dazie is one of Kings sisters that we brought home from Nebraska in July. They are all 7.5. Dazie is Oshkosh Updraft, King is Oshkosh U Go Boy and Ultra (who has very recently been renamed Lily) is Oshkosh Ultra. They're all really great pups. Thanks for all of the continued prayers. We have not heard from the vet today but that is ok because they are closed to the public (they have techs to go in to take care of the pups). The only reason we would hear from them today is if something was wrong so I'm glad not to have heard from them! We'll update tomorrow, hopefully she will be home!
  8. Praying for the best for Count! We just went through a lot of liquid D with Dazie but her situation was totally different. Good thoughts for all of you!
  9. I also don't have any experience here but will pray for you and Roo. I hope it is nothing terrible.
  10. I'm so very sorry to hear this. Your boy looks so precious and beautiful. I can only imagine... :grouphug :grouphug :f_white :gh_run
  11. My thoughts are with you all during this time. Run free sweet one. :gh_run :f_white :grouphug :grouphug
  12. I went to visit Dazie again today. As the vet described it, she was much more spry today. She kept wandering about the little room we were in and wanting to investigate every little noise she heard outside the room. She didn't even want to lay down. They said she did not vomit last night which is excellent. Also, she ate both last night and this morning. She had not had any bowel movements by the time I got there and that is the next big step. She had such bloody, liquid diarreah before I took her in that I want to make sure that her bowel movements are back to normal before we bring her home. They want to keep her until at least Monday so they can continue with the injectible antibiotics so we can be sure she gets enough of the good stuff. Just as an FYI the vet indicated that Stump Pyometra is very rare, he would estimate only 1 in 3000 dogs will develop it, so if you have any pups going in for spay don't worry too much. He did say that it is best to wait a minimum of 2 weeks post heat cycle to have them spayed, the longer you wait the better I guess. Dazie was spayed roughly 3 weeks post heat cycle but sometimes these things just develop. Also, just as a side note, this poor girl lost 25 teeth when she had her spay & dental done! She's been such a good girl through all of the pain and discomfort. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. It looks like the power of GT is working for my girl. I've included some pictures from my visit today. I'll certainly update as we get any new information or if she comes home.
  13. We went to see Dazie this afternoon. She looked ok. They said she came out of the anestesia pretty quickly which made me feel better. The vet tech who we talked with is spoiling her as much as she can. She has given her extra blankets for her 'apartment' as they call it. Here are a few pics we took while we were with her. It's hard to see in the pics but she is very underweight, at least 10 pounds which is so much for her... My poor girl... Thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers, she sure needs them. Will keep this updated as things progress...
  14. She is out of surgery now. It was a big stump pyometra as they suspected. She did also have the peritonitis but he said that they flushed her abdomen really well and he doesn't feel like he needs to leave it open for future flushing. They are sending a culture to the lab to see if anything important is noted about the infection. They removed her cervix and a sac from around her intestines as well. He expects her recovery will be difficult. She also has hook worms which we are battling as well. She is coming out of the anestesia now and we just have to wait and see how she does. We are planning to leave her at the vet's office through the weekend so she has the best chance of recovery. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers, please keep them coming as she is not out of the woods yet.
  15. One of our new girls Dazie is in surgery now for what they think is stump pyometra. They are also worried about peritonitis. She was spayed 2 weeks ago. Please pray for her. Thank you
  16. Turns out she does have some medical issues that are probably causing her to urinate in the house. Since she is feeling so terrible she has been crating pretty easily. As soon as she's feeling better we'll work on the crating more specifically. By then she may be more food motivated too. Thank you all for the responses. I sure appreciate it.
  17. Thanks for all of the advice. I sure appreciate it. Since we're short on time we'll work with many of the suggestions. I really like the idea of letting her out when she has laid down and is relaxed. We'll work on that for sure. FWIW it's a bit of an emergency because we have to leave her alone tomorrow but it will also be a long term thing. Tonight we're going to do our best to get her in the crate for overnight in our bedroom, where we will all be. Will be back tomorrow night to update. Thank you!
  18. 1. I can try to baby gate her in the kitchen but she has peed on the tile before. That's why I'm looking to crate instead. I could get some of the pee mats and baby gate her in the kitchen, we'll see... 2. We have taken her to the park let her run, pee, poop then brought her home and gone out to dinner and she messed in the house. So if it isn't medical I'm not sure that taking her out right before we leave will help. 3. A friend recommended that we try crating her for 24-48 hours all the time. Then when we are ready to take her out we get her out of the crate, take her outside, come back in and put her back in the crate. We can play with her when we come back in but then she will go back into the crate. She has had this method work with many fosters. Thoughts? Thanks!!
  19. We are in a very unusual position and I don't want to bore everyone with the very lengthy details but what it comes down to is we have a girl who really doesn't like to be crated, is not food motivated at all and has messed in the house. We are taking her to the vet tomorrow to check for any medical issues. I am working to get her eating more and I really think she will come around but right now she is hardly eating anything. If the issue of messing in the house is not medical then I'm not sure if it is SA or just behavioral. She REALLY likes to go for car rides and sometimes it seems that she will potty in the house just because you didn't take her with you. She will have to be crated tomorrow morning and I need to figure out a way to get her in there without traumatizing her. This is really important right now and I could sure use some advice. I'll be home all night tonight and will check back often. If you have other questions I need to answer to get advice I will respond quickly. Again, I really appreciate any advice. I know the rules... edited to add a photo! Here she is discovering herself in the mirror for the first time! Thank you!
  20. I'm hoping that someone might be able to give me some information on where I can get raw food for the pups at a good price. We just bought the freezer we will need, now I need a good source. I am in South Orlando but I work downtown so I have a wide area I can work with. I would really appreciate any info as I'm just not sure where to start. Thank you!
  21. Welcome! Where in Orlando are you? We're always interested in meeting new greyhound people! Hope you find GT as fun and useful as we have.
  22. We just got back from the vet and he said not to worry about it and to keep it clean. He drained it but it is still there and is smaller now. The vet also said to watch if anymore come up and if they do or that one does not go away then to come back and he'll take care of it. Other than that everyone at the vet was happy to see King, the sitting greyhound (he's the only greyhound in their practice that will actually do a proper sit ). Also, the vet has a wonderful white greyhoundie girl up for adoption. (sorry no pics. ) King had a good time at the vet, he loves the attention. Thanks for the responses, I'm glad we took him in. We'll be keeping a close eye on him! Back to watching the sitting greyhound.
  23. King has this spot that we thought was just a blood blister for about a month. It was raised but covered by fur, it was a deep purple, almost black. It almost looked like a nipple but it is on his shoulder... Well today I lifted the fur to have a look at it and it started bleeding! It looks really red and now I'm not sure if it is a blood blister or something more... I read that sometimes things like this can be hemangioma and that would really worry me! Here is a picture of it tonight. Please let me know if you think it warrants a trip to the vet... And here is one for perspective We appreciate any thoughts you can offer!
