  1. What kind of container is her water in? How long have you had her?
  2. Pull the skin up on the back, not the neck or shoulders. That's the more accurate test for a greyhound. A lot of folks think their greys are dehydrated when they really aren't. The most accurate way to check for dehydration is the capillary refill test. Push your finger into her gums. When you pull your finger away, the color should return in 1-2 seconds.
  3. If it's troubling you, a vet visit may be worth the peace of mind.
  4. Definitely not if it were me. I'd put neosporine on it twice a day and make sure he keeps it clean. If the cut or the swelling get worse, then I'd make the trip to the vet.
  5. Greyhounds don't have good circulation in their lower limbs, and swelling often pops up even if it's just a scrape. Doesn't look like anything to be concerned about.
  6. Pull the skin on her back. For greyhounds, it's more reliable than the neck. I'd try Maxiguard. It has worked on my dogs like nothing else has. Dazzle's breath doesn't even smell anymore, and Echo's is not nearly as bad as it was.
  7. I buy the Kirkland Chicken & Rice in the maroon bag.
  8. What a coincidence! That was CG's Wow Wubbzy. :)

  9. Judy's advice is spot on. Please don't give up on the dog. I learned the same hard lesson once; I messed with my first greyhound while he was lying down and received a swift bite to the face. My own stupid mistake.
  10. Your adoption group might know, but if they don't, they might be able to talk to the owner or trainer. I asked because in the case of old injuries, it's often better to keep them a tad lighter to avoid re-aggravation.
  11. He's Atascocita Gary, right? If so, his racing weight is listed at 76lbs. Judging by that alone, he's overweight. He doesn't look fat in the pictures but you can tell he's carrying some extra weight. If it were my dog, I'd cut him back to 80 lbs and see how he looks there. Just my two cents. Did Gary have any injuries on the track? His last race says he trailed.
  12. Was going to ask if you'd post a pic. That would be helpful! I don't know your vet, but I've seen some call really fat greyhounds healthy, and healthy greyhounds too skinny. It's a lot healthier for a greyhound to be a little on the skinny side than a little on the fat side.
  13. A dental every six months is ridiculous! Have you heard of/tried Maxi Guard?
  14. Greyhounds are absolutely NOT raised in cages. Where did you hear this information?
  15. Mine have done well on loratadine, which is the generic of claritin, and over the counter.
  16. Echo does that all the time. She's itching her back. Echo doesn't move around very well and can't itch her back upside down in the grass, so she does it in the bushes.
  17. My male did that a lot when I was feeding twice a day. I switched to once a day and they both eat much better that way. What is your girl's racing name? It's likely that her racing weight is listed on greyhound-data.
  18. Muzzling will solve the trash problem.
  19. I remember some pics you posted once, now that you mention it! What type of brush do you use on Echo? I'm tempted to go find myself a curry comb! Furminator and Zoom Groom! But actually I shave Echo (gasp! ) in the summer. She has old lady skin and brushing of any kind hurts her. She's got too much hair to brush it all out without causing her pain. So it's a shave when she first starts shedding and maintenance after that.
  20. Normal! My Echo sheds like that, too. You should see what my Great Pyrenees does twice a year.
  21. Dazzle had one like that, too. It never was a problem and went away on its own.
  22. Nice job! I used to think it wasn't possible until I had to do it with my high-prey boy. Congrats!!
