  1. One week ago Saturday Belle had another seizure and was very different to her first one that she had 10 months ago. This time the legs were not going 90 miles an hour but as stiff as a board and when she came out of it growled at both Dave and myself. She was only in this one a couple of minutes and it took only a couple of minutes for her to get back to her sassy self. Called the vet and he said no medication but to watch for a pattern. Both times she was sleeping and they had asked me if anything could of set her off. I am so thankful that this happened while she was in her crate as I do believe the other hounds might of hurt her..

  2. Updates on all my sick kids 4 and 2 legged

My son Al has cancer and they are trying a new chemo drug to stop the spread of his cancer. He gets weekly passes to go home but has to be back at a certain time for his tube feeding and medications by IV push

Softee is much better and is eating up to 4 cups of food a day sometimes more. Loves to eat at night and is not gaining any weight.

Belle is doing greyt and we are now waiting for the fur to grow back where she was shaved she will have a scar on her front leg

  3. She is showing a lot of improvement. Her walk is much better and is even doing her trot when she has to poo with no problems. she is also eating better and ate this am for breakfast about 1 3/4 cups of food which consisted of dry puppy food (to get her weight back up), canned, cooked fat balls (vet said the eggs had to be cooked), porky balls, liver brownies and deer roast gravy. We have been trying to feeder her three to four times/day. I do believe she probably had an ear infection the way she has been improving.

  4. Our Belle who was named after me (Jams Beryl P) ran into a box 3 weeks ago and had a flap inury which the vet sewed up but did not think it would heal (blood flow problem) which it didn't. She decided to have a ruckus with her house mates and ended up with a few bites that needed attention. Our vet did resew the flap injury and another injury behind it. One area started to leak and then split open about the size of a quarter but looked good. Yesterday she had her sutures removed and they were please with her progress the area about the size of a quarter we were told to keep vaseline on it to keep it from bleeding but we were no more than 5 miles from the vets when we noticed she had licked off the vaseline and the scab and it was bleeding (oozing). called vet when we arrived home put antibiotic ointment on it and put the collar back on and keep her crated to keep the wound clean.

  5. Sorry I have not posted things have been hectic here. Softee has marked improvement in her walking and she is wobbly which I think might be age. she has not been eating a lot but we have made her liver brownies which she is sharing with her nephew and house mates. Mom and Dad have declined the offer. Made her fat balls but when my vet found out that they had raw eggs almost had a heart attack said that there was bacteria in the eggs that is harmful. We put all the fat balls in the oven when we came home and baked them. Her Pred has been reduced to 1/2 tab every other day. She is giving us problems eating and I am doing everything to try and get her weight back on. She is even doing a trot before she dumps and has not lost her footing.

  6. She ate some canned dog food last night about 1 cup still won't touch any dry who care as long as she eats. Got her meds in without bread. Tomorrow she will only have her Pred once a day. She is walking much better and I did notice a little bounce when she was out last night.

  7. She ate her Porky Balls (an adult size serving) and a heaping tablespoon of mashed potatoes. I am going to make the fat balls for her tomorrow as I have to buy the fatty hamburger. At least she is not staggering as bad as she was on Sunday & Monday. Her back end seems to be in sync with her front...

  8. Do you make stuffed cabbage or stuffed peppers it is the same. I was taught to cook via sight so I will try and give you a good idea of what to do.

    1 # beef

    1/2 cup raw rice

    1 egg

enough bread crumbs so that you can mold into balls (we make them about the size of walnuts as they swell)

1 green pepper sliced seeds removed

1 onion (med) sliced (can also add chopped onion to meat mixture)

1 large can of tomato sauce

Put sauce and can of water in a large pot add meat balls, onion and green pepper. Add enough water to cover. Salt and pepper to taste. Cover I usually let whom ever is eating it salt and pepper. Put on stove and bring to a boil lower heat and simmer until rice is done. Can also be done in oven just keep an eye on it so it does not dry out. Can also be make in crock pot/slow cooker.

Expierment with canned tomatoes and even tomato soup

I forgot to tell you - I have added to both my meat mixture and sauce -parsley flakes, celery flakes and chives. Another thing I have done is used Italian bread crumbs to the meat. Also remember rice absorbs fluid so keep an eye on your Porky balls while they are cooking. Adding water does not hurt it. Keep the meat balls covered with fluid.

  10. Softee is showing some improvement with her walking still a little wobbly. She is still not eating and would not eat this am for her Dad so to give her pill he gave her a slice of bread. When I came home from work got about 1/2 cup canned food in her. Going to try her on human food later Porky Balls which is ground meat, rice, eggs and bread crumbs made into balls and cooked in a tomato sauce with cut up green peppers. If she will eat human food guess that will have to do until she gets better

  11. Sunday about 6 pm Softee started walking like a drunken sailor, she did not seem to be in any pain. She would not eat and drank very little water but she was going to potty. We decided to watch her and take her to our Vet on Monday. She had a complete examination had no temperature. The vet checked her reflexes and found most to be normal except for the movement to and fro with both head and eyes. She gave us the diagnosis of either inflamation/infection of central nervous system or inner ear. She also stated that at her age it could be cancer.

She gave her an injection of Azium, and put her on Baytril 136 mg 1/2 tab 2xday until done and Prednisolone 20 mg 1/2 tab 2xday for 3 days then 1/2 tab once day for 3 days to call and let her know how she is and then 1/2 tab every other day if we have progress.

Managed to get a slice of bread in her to give her her meds. She also told me that Fish Oil is an anti inflamatory

Softee celebrated her 14th. Birthday on August 2 & 3

  12. I sent a lot of pictures out of my handsome boy. His owner gave him the kennel name of Dart for "D" litter. The kennel he was in called him Burney and would not call him Dart as both the owner and myself wanted. I had started buying things for him as I only have had girls had to get some boy things. He had collars that were designed especially for him and I have not gotten them back from that racing kennel yet. They were his and why should someone else have them, I want them as a remembrance of him as all I have now are some pictures.

  13. Thank you. He never made it to his forever home that had been waiting for him since he was born and joined his sibling sister Belle. We were packed and ready to go to Florida to get him, leaving Saturday the 10th but on Thursday the 8th. received word he was dead. Tuesday the 6th. the breeder/owner was told he was fine and at the farm and they would keep him there until I got there. You might remember posts from last January about my Belle and I did not wait but got down to Florida and got her right away. If it was not for his foster mom calling to get him we probably would of gone to Florida and then found out he was dead.

  14.

Some more information on Dart that some people might not know. This pup's racing name was Jams David Burns named after my husband and was pre-adopted when he was born along with his sister Belle (Jams Beryl P who was named after me) and I am a member of Grey Talk. I have been devasated by the death of such a young pup who would of been our first boy and he was coming to a home of 5 girls. He would of had a harem. What is hurting so bad that there was no notification was made to the owner of his passing. She would of gotten hold of us at once to let us know. If he had needed vetted we would of paid no mater what the price and I would of had follow up care either at Ohio State or one of out vets here in Pittsburgh. I recently had to renew my membership and am using my original name that I started out with on GT. My computer was destroyed by Dell techs and it took them over 6 months to replace it. That is why I was not able to post on this site. If you look up old posts you will see I posted before only when I have something to say.
