  2. hi hil only just read your post, monday pepper was very unsettled, and miserable, when we took pep for potty walks,he just does his buisiness, and wants to come home as quickly as possible, and was generally down in the dumps.however today he is a lot brighter ,we took pep for a walk on the east hill this evening, and he was back to his old self playing with his ball and generally "looning" around. the wound is drying up despite his best attemps to lick it i will keep you posted after we have seen the vet thursday.
  3. pepper and i were taking our morning walk this morning on the east hill, having some fun with his ball ,we did not want to go too far, as the weather was a bit showery and thundery,we were making our way home ,when this idiot appeared with a black gsd x,or thats what it looked like off leash. the dog came bounding up to pep ,the owner was smiling,i thought a friendly dog that want to play i was wrong, it went straight into aggressive mode and bit a hole in peps back.the dog had a halti on but surely it should have been on leash or muzzeled.no apolgies from the owner, not even a word when i told him what his dog had done.we were worried about infection and getting pep treated asap.the vet decided not to stitch the wound, but to clean it up ,and give anti inflamatory, antibiotic, pep is now resting .why do these people let dogs like this off leash
  4. OMG! poor gwen, hope they all get better soon, best wishes to gwen and her pack
  5. Hi there and welcome from ,hastings, east sussex.
  6. So very sorry ,prayers and thoughts with you and dallas
  7. Hi GTers we have a slight setback with peppers foot.i noticed a slight swelling on top of his foot,my partner said i worry too much ,but i decided to go with my "gut" feeling and took pep to the vet this evening. the vet said there are two stitches which did`nt dissolve ,and are hanging on the vet removed one, but could not remove the other one . pep was too stressed to have the other one removed.he is now on antibiotics because there is an infection, and we now wait for the swelling to go down. so he can remove the other stitch. wish us luck
  8. What a handsome fellow, congratulations! and all the best for the future
  9. Hi GTers, its been two weeks since pepper had an infected toe removed from his front right foot, and the last dressing came off on monday.since the dressing came off he seems lame,we were hoping to let him off leash, weds /thurs,but it looks like it will be a while yet before he comes off leash,he only wants to go for short potty walks at the moment, but seems well in himself. am i being too anxious,or does it take longer than i thought to settle down and get back to something near normal,i would appreciate any info thanks.
  10. Sending prayers and good thoughts! Sending prayers and good thoughts!
  11. Our vet suggested this as a possiblity when we took him in. I opted not to do xrays at that time b/c there was NEVER any swelling (original injury occured as a blown pad from lure coursing). I really just thought it was a cut with infection. After talking to some other (lure coursing) folks and reading your post, I'm thinking otherwise now He's off to the vet next week to have it dealt with...again. I'm hoping we don't have to amputate but there's definitely more going on than just a superficial cut. We are going through a similar issue with pepper.two different types of antibiotics, its fine all the while peps on antibiotics, but flares up again when he is off them.so we decided with the vet to open up the infected pad and take a look, but the infection was too bad so amputation was the only option.pepper`s toe was removed some nine days ago and he has the dressing changed three times, and he has had to be sedated every time, hopefully the dressing will come off for the last time monday.goodluck hope he /she does`nt need surgery.
  12. Hi GTers pepper and i were wondering if any of you know how long it takes to heal after a toe amputation.it will be seven days tomorrow since the op,mabey we are getting too impatient, but its very traumatic for pep as he has to be sedated just to have the dressing changed,we are just back from the vets, and we have to go again friday, however we spoke to the vet who performed the surgery, and he said the infection was much worse than he thought leaving no option, but to remove the toe,and there was no foreign body as first thought, but he said the wound is healing nicely, provided we can stop pep nibbling the dressing as he did today. here is a pic of a drousy sad pepper
  13. peppper had the dressing changed today.he had to be sedated. and is struggling to walk at the moment,he only goes outside for potty breaks. but the foot is looking good,oh and i will post some pics of your lil buddy later hil!
  14. Hi GTers, just a ouick update on pepper`toe.we took pepper to the vets today to have the dressing changed, unfortunatly pep was having none of it,he would not let the vetinery nurse touch it.we tried yummy treats,to no avail, then the dreaded muzzle, and finally sedation from the vet it was all very stressful for poor pep, however the foot`s looking okay has been redressed till tuesday.
  15. pepper was a bit drousy and dopey yesterday from the anasthetic,he is a bit better today,we will be back at vets saturday, for a change of dressing Isuppose one might call this patient recovery position
  16. Thank you all for your kind thoughts ,unfortunately the vet said the infection was to severe and he amputated the toe.i am beating myself up at the moment as i feel i should have done more to save my boy from this pain. initially the vet said open it up and clean it out,but it was worse than he thought, but then pepper never did things by half.
  17. Hi GTers, peppers toe has flared up again.we saw the vet yesterday, and we decided its time to open it up and have a wee look inside to see if there are any foreign objects in there causing the infection. hopefully all should go well, but we are a bit apprehensive about stitches, and dressings,as pepper has a tendancy to remove them, when he was neutered he removed the stitches the same night, that was with the "lamp shade " on. however the vet says there should be only one or two stitches. wish us luck!
  18. Prayers and good thoughts coming your way.get well soon snowy
