  1. If money is a problem for hiring a dog walker midday to help him up and down stairs then outside(using a sling), how about trading? I babysit my friends greys. no cost. They babysit my greys. no cost. Some years I make out, some years they make out ahead. It's a great deal between the two of us Can you find someone who could use you for babysitting in exchange for daily dog care? Maybe your group has ideas. Also.....I've put my dog door in the wall. They have wall sized doors. Can you put a door in somewhere upstairs or downstairs where your boy stays and then a ramp from that to outside? I'm one of those who lost a 5 and 8 yr old........
  2. My Pearl has heart disease. While caring for her they noticed her heart rate was higher than it should be (especially for a greyhound!). So she is also on digoxin. She also has hypertension. It took a trip to the cardiologist to confirm all this. However, it was a heart murmur that had our vet recommend the cardiologist. Hope it's nothing..........
  3. Gillian, I lost my Brindle to that awful disease. She seemed fine in the morning. She was gone that night. I had taken her to U of Penn. I feel for you.
  4. Pearl's outlived her prognosis from her heart disease by 2 yrs. She's on a plethura of meds. And she turns 11 this Friday. I can't be more thankful for her cardiologist and her heart and BP meds. Yes.....medicine, especially for our furkids have come a long way.
  5. My Pearl was on DES for a while. But she was also on 6 other meds for her heart and hypertension. She's always been a little finicky, but I didn't notice it worsening while on DES. I was able to take her off eventually and no incontinence. But I'd ask the vet if that's a side effect.
  6. Hey, you need a tissue warning with these posts. I'm usually at work when I read them! Good girl Polli!
  7. I work with The Dog Shrink. A trainer who specializes in problems with dogs. Here's her comment which back up what a lot of others were saying.
  8. My old lady Onyx mourns her male counterpart..............

    Miles...

Farewell Master yet not farewell. Where I go, ye too shall dwell I am gone before your face A moment's time, a little space When ye come where I have stepped, Ye will wonder why ye wept.
  10. Oh I hope he gets to venture into Dewey at least once so maybe I'll see him. Good Boy Bodie. You made your momma happy.
  11. No, I don't think it's a stroke. You've just described exactly several episodes Onyx has had over the years. I took her to a neurologist and did MRIs. He found nothing. If it had been a mini-stroke, it would have shown up either there or in the blood work. He stated that ruling everything else out, they were probably mini seisures. They always seem to occur just as she woke up. (morning, middle of the night, but never after she's been up and awake and active). They lasts just about 30 minutes. Interestingly enough, when she has had anesthesia. like for the MRI, afterwards they would disappear for a while. She has trouble doing stairs like she doesn't know what they are. THe whole house looks new and foreign to her. When she was 8 yrs old, she had several episode. We had the MRI, then she was episode free for 2 yrs. She had a few more, then she needed anesthesia for something. They disappeared again. She had a couple last year. Not severe, not many. Nothing yet this year. She just celebrated her 13th BD last week.
  12. It's unfortunate to welcome you under such circumstances, but welcome anyway. I have not had the misfortune of osteo, but I do have two bridgekids. I'm sorry you're going thru this, however I'm sure Cherry knows she's loved. And that's most important.
  13. After what I went thru with Pearl, I'm definitely in favor of pulling. She has heart disease. She developed hypertension. So much so that she became very high risk anesthesia. We couldn't control the high BP and decided to do a CT scan of her adrenals thinking it was adrenal tumors. It wasn't. But at the same time we took advantage of her being under and removed an abscessed tooth (the little one WAY in the back). That abscessed tooth caused kidney disease (glomerulonephritis) which in turned caused her hypertension. And unfortunately it was misdiagnosed as myocitis, so she dealt with this painful tooth for months before we got the right diagnosis.
  14. A lot of people have VPI because they were one of the first. I don't change because I have senior dogs. But definitely look around, there are a lot more companies now than there were 10 yrs ago.
  15. I would say the best thing to do is do a search on this site for pet insurance. Lots of people ask and there are lots of answer. Personally, I have it. And VPI probably wishes I didn't. Onyx just starting being a profit for them. She's 13. Pearl....they probably hate that name by now. She has heart disease and hypertension. She has maxed out for 3 yrs i a row. One word though. Don't wait. If you're going to do it. Do it. Because if you take your pup in for stitches, a tummy ache, a booger in her eye........those items will be exempt.
  16. Diamond originally was on .8 twice a day, she's down to .3 twice a day. I think our greys are way sensitive to thyroid meds. But she's doing well on it.
  17. No matter what kind of hemangio it is, it is still a very nasty cancer. I lost my Brindle to hemangio of the spleen. She seemed fine in the morning, was gone that night. No warning whatsoever. I'm so sorry.

  19. Can you call and ask your vets opinion? Does he recommend it wait or bring right in?
