  1. Thank you for your honesty tbhounds. Bloodwork has been done. He's taking antibiotics. The veterinarian is on the Greytalk list of savvy vets, Dr. Clements. I will call the office Monday and ask the other questions.
  2. Yikes! Oh my! After reading IndyandHollyluv I was sure we should do the dental....then MaryJane reminded me of the chances of dying which I'm well aware of but just didn't want to consider that happening.
  3. I have a rehomed grey who is 11. His teeth are horrible. He's scheduled for a dental next week with a possible 15 extractions! I was sure this needs to be done but as time grows closer I'm concerned about putting this older boy through all of this. I would appreciate hearing of any of your experiences or thoughts.
  4. When I couldn't find/buy pee pads large enough (my old girl walks around while she pees) I bought plain $2.50 shower liners from K-mart and put fleece material or old towels on top. After being used I just folded it up and put in washer. I get the shower liners at Walmart, they are sturdy enough to wash and they air dry quick. Don't put them in the dryer. Liners from the The Dollar Store do not work they are to thin to wash.
  5. thank you all for your kind words. Cal was only 8. I wish I could figure out how to post a pic but i can't right now. But he had the most thick beautiful brindle coat. thank you all again.
  6. Cal, the sweetest, loving, shyest boy has gone to greyhound heaven. Another casualty of bone cancer.
  7. I can't find the Osteo Thread greysmom suggested?!
  8. I quadapruled (sp?) checked his pad. I don't see anything. My vet is closed now. I will call tomorrow for an estimate on the xray. I just spent a load at the ER last week with Jackie (greymix) she passed away
  9. what else is there to try besides carbuprofen?
  10. I'm getting panicky here. I've been through osteosarcoma with Smokey, he was 14 and it was in his shoulder. My 9 year old, Cal, started limping several weeks ago. First round of carbuprofen seemed to get a little better so we are continuing to a second round and it is not helping at all. Next is xrays. I believe his pain is in his wrist. Can osteosarcoma be in the wrist?
  11. We're using Iams Simple and Natural and the poops even better than the Iams green bag. I had to switch b/c one grey/mix got really itchy and this did the trick. It's more expensive than the green bag (they disguise this by making it a 15 pound bag)
  12. I have two greys that came to me with the exact same looking pouch under their chins. One resolved on its own and has not come back in a year and the other the vet gave him antibiotics and each day on the antibiotics the fluid decreased until it was gone. He still has an empty pouch from skin stretching and the other has no pouch. Call me crazy or my vet but he said that they may have come in contact with a puppy that had an infection. It can't remember what he exactly called it. It is really puzzling to me because use to be a vet tech and have never heard of such a thing. I too saw the pictures of a grey with a block salivary duct and was really worried about them having to get surgery. But antibiotics (I believe Doxy or Cephalexin) took care of it. Hope this helps.
  13. Me thinks I need to rejoin Costco!!!!!
  14. I third the green beans. If you use canned try to find low salt otherwise the frozen beans probably would be salt free already.
  15. THAT is exactly what a ruptured anal sac looks like. Just my opinion but "oral" antibiotics would clear that up in no time.
  16. If allergy meds do not clear the red eye....you should consult a vet....there are varies eye conditions that such as pannus which could lead to blindness if not treated. Not to make you worry but just a precaution
  17. Metronidazole is very safe and is a wonder drug for diarrhea. I've never seen in my 6 years of being a vet tech any problems with giving a grey Metronidazole or a dog with neurological problems have a reaction to Metro.
  18. Is it maybe an infected anal gland??? One of my greys had a sore to the under side of the tail about 1 inch from her anus that was her anal gland. No puss was involved just bleeding. Very weird but could be....antibiotics do the trick....takes a little while to heal.
  19. I second contacting Dr. Deavon, I have heard many great things about her....her phone # is 717-304-9987. I think 717 is the correct area code. If not, then 610 area code.
  20. I'm so sorry to hear about Moscow. You and Moscow are in our thoughts and prayers
