  1. If the UF Vet School will not take you seriously I would contact Dr Kellogg at Ohio State (Greyhound Health and Wellness Program). See if she has an ideas. See if the Dr's at Ohio State Vet Clinic have any ideas.

Then maybe she can work with the UF Vet School.

If you greyhound is sick you need someone to pay attention to you. Something must be enlarging and pushing something else out of position. Have them feel if spleen and liver.

Hugs and please contact Dr Kellogg. Can you scan in all his paperwork to email her?

  2. We crate them for their own safety when we go out. Crates are part of their lives, they are their own little apartments where they can rest and be along. Some love crates, some do not crate well. I would think with cats your adoption group would have given you a greyhound that likes crates.

Greyhounds can be cat safe but when cats run or dart around, all bets are off.

  3. My vote is your vet is correct. I have had greyhounds that had 0 thyroid level on there tests. They also had seizures. The thyroid medicine seemed to work in conjunction with their seizure medicine. No idea how but from working with the medicine over time, that's how it was. One of the girls became very lethargic. I upped her thyroid medicine half a pill AM and PM. She had more energy and was like a new girl.

We had thyroid level tests done when requested by the vet. Otherwise we went by what we saw. The greyhounds seemed happy and we were happy they were happy. You might say we experimented with the medicine a bit to see what was best for the greyhounds.

We also noticed a difference in how the hair filled in on the bare back ends.

Special thanks from Northcoast Greyhounds is due to Christine Kellogg, DVM, who not only works hard in the clinic, but helps us post the names of those included in our Memorial Hearts Program. We really appreciate her friendly and detail oriented helpfulness!

    What's a "REFUND RAFFLE"?
Each raffle in this series will run between 2-3 weeks. We hope that if you continue to purchase tickets in upcoming raffles, too, you'll eventually WIN one of our more extravagant items, but if you don't, you will at least take comfort in the fact that at some point, if you've accumulated receipts for more than $250 in ticket purchases,
we'll refund $50 of your raffle dollars directly to your own adoption group

  5. Which of the groups in the Tampa Bay Area do you feel most comfortable with? You might want to register your new greyhound with that group and get her in their database. They should give you one of the groups tags to put on her also. This is her safety net and her way home if, heaven forbid, she takes herself on a walk about. Usually in the Tampa Bay Area you are welcomed at any of the greyhound groups events and gatherings.

We like to attend. GREAT, Gold Coast Clearwater, and Bay Area Greyhound Events. The group in Sarasota, Racing Dogs, also puts on a wonderful summer event. Gold Coast Orlando also puts on some nice events also. This is have greyhound, will travel.

  6. Have you checked the price at your local vet? Our vet charges $3 for a pill that does 15 pounds. Then there is someplace I order on the internet that is cheaper. I think they might come from the UK. I have to find the place myself again to place an order. I would ask here on GT for other places the people order from.

  7. It may be slow going to start with with the adoption. But when you need them in a hurry they will be there for you. Groups usually have more personal greyhounds at meet and greets. They bring the greyhounds from the foster homes and adoption kennel as needed to meet a certain adopter. I would say their are probably at least 50 greyhounds in the foster homes and adoption kennel at Derby Lane. They bring a sampling of the greyhounds that are up for adoption.

You seem ready to Hug a Greyhound -

  8. There are many greyhounds at Derby Lane in St Petersburg that need homes. Have you thought about contacting one of the adoption groups in St Pete or Tampa. I can think of 4 adoption groups in that area. You would be able to foster some greyhounds before you decide which one you would like to adopt. Your support group would also be closer. You could take your greyhound to meet and greets to socialize with other greyhounds.
