  1. fsugrad - We have a greyhound with Glaucoma. The eyeball was enlarged with build up pressure. Those might not be the correct terms.

I did a lot of research to check this process out before letting the Dr do it. The Dr injected the eyeball to kill off the cells that produced the intraocular fluid. They eye looks different and she has no vision in that eye. The pressure is down and we are on hold. The next option is to remove the eyeball itself.

    Hugs to Toby

  2.

For ear injuries...I use a maxipad on the ear with neosporin or other antibiotic ointment and then wrap the ear to the head in vet wrap. Works awesomly! The ear was healed in 2 days and I could leave it unwrapped!

Do you have a photo of this? Please and Thank You

  3. I'm not sure where the cut is. I have been using the small baby diapers on the feet as bandages. Put the diaper on then just a few wraps to keep it on. They are a real find for me. Of course you can wrap and tape it on. Then we have a 3 XL boot they wear. The boot is huge for them but it works.

The diaper works as a pressure bandage also.

  4. Our greyhound is going for his second chemo treatment on Thursday. I give the meds for nausea the next day. I do not wait for him to be sick. He has had "D" off and on for a couple of week's. I have meds to give for that also.

I will continue his chemo treatments, it's the only chance he has. He is enjoying lounging on the couch and being loved.

  5. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this. There is FULL MOON Sunday November 17. Some of the seizure kids are already feeling the effects of it.

I have my supplies lined up, extra frozen vegetable bags are ready, extra heavy towels ready, honey bottle and some munchies for when they are done. I may give them an extra phenobarbital if they look cross-eyed at me. Our former vet said to push a phenobarbital pill up the rear end if I did not have any valium sticks

  7. The Dr will need for him to contact them, Blood bank Dr) regarding the chemo.

They will need his weight after amputation, diagnosis, etc.

I will send you a link to Dr Mason's study if you are interested in the trials.

In addition, only those patients whose tumors express the target antigen “Her-2/neu” will be eligible for inclusion in this study.

I think this will be the hang up for our greyhound getting in the trials. His tissue is already in Formaldehyde at the lab. This is a new test. Contact Dr Mason if you are interested before you loose a viable tissue sample.
  8. If you would like the free chemo for your greyhound from Ohio State University please contact the ladies in the blood bank. Whatever the procedure was before didn't work. The vet faxed a form to Ohio State. The fax is still MIA

Contact information: email these ladies or better yet call them. Your vet will have to make a call to them also.

The chemo arrived at our vets the next day.

  9. The first amputation is the toughest. We just amputated for the 7th time. We are long time greyhounds lovers. We have never looked back on the decision.

Please take advantage of the free chemo offered by Ohio State University. Email the ladies at the blood bank and they will get the process going. Someone from your vet's office will also have to contact them.

  10. "Also -- is it odd that I'm not going through a local oncologist?"

NO, I always put Dr Couto on alert when something happens to our greyhounds. Our greyhound broke his leg a few weeks ago at night. When we returned from the E Vet I emailed Dr Couto even before we had been to our regular vet the next day. I emailed him a copy of the E Vet's report, the same report the E Vet faxed to our regular vet.

I have driven our greyhounds up to Ohio State for 8 years now. I have been with the Dr's at Ohio State when Dr Couto was not there. They would say they would have to call Dr Couto to consult with him. And I would wait until they had reached Dr Couto before I received my answer.

Dr Couto is our go to man. Our local vet and surgeon did his surgery rotation at Ohio State and respects Dr Couto. Dr Couto has helped him out a few times with chemo.
