Years ago the original formula was good. Since then it seems to have been all downhill with that dog food.

Jessie gets up at 5:30 and makes sure all the other greyhounds are up also.

We use the spook harness on our spooks and backer uppers. We also get the lead with two hooks on it. We can attach it to his collar and to the harness.
If the males happen to mark on the harness, it is easy to wash and dry. If you keep if tight enough they should miss it.

Don't you have the young vet from OSU? Have him contact Dr Dyce at OSU. Dr Dyce and Dr Couto helped me with Vallery's prosthetic.

Ours like to hide in the tub and shower during thunder storms. I put beds in there for them and turn the radio on.

We use Scarlet Oil on their wounds. I can see the wound healing from day to day. Of course muzzle cup and shorts for sure. We also wrap a towel around them and tie it on them with the bottom edge of a t-shirt. We cut the bottom of t-shirts off, about 1 or 2 inches. They make for good ties.

We have had greyhounds that would not potty on lead. Give them time and they will change. It may be a long time but be patient. Our boy finally went on lead when he was with a group of other greyhounds taking a potty break at an event.

Have you had him checked for a UTI? Leave a radio or TV on, maybe he will not wake up while you are gone. He probably takes a nap and has to go out when he wakes up. They leave something on with music in the racing kennel, they keep it dark and cool.
Can the adoption group ask at his racing kennel if he was a crate wetter? Might have a small bladder.

Take a piece of poop with the rice clearly showing. If they are really small and rare you can hold off on it. Sometimes it really is from the food. Wait until it "Waves" at you. If you leave it in the grass then see the rice it might be a bug.
Research purchasing the meds online somewhere without a Script. You might have to purchase more than you need but it doesn't go bad.

Would he eat a Banana or an apple? Dennis would take the skin off the banana by himself. Brenda loves to eat an apple (the whole apple), then take a nap.

I live near Memphis TN. I put them in the car and drive them up to Ohio State. Even if they are uncomfortable they usually fall asleep for most of the trip. You can get her admitted thru Emergency. They will probably contact Dr Dyce that she is there.
I lay plastic and pads down for them to go on. I can not lift them out either. We stay over in Louisville for the night before going up to Columbus. I wait and ask a man at the motel to help get them in and out of the car. Even at a rest stop you can find a man to help you.

I use Scarlet Oil on the kids wounds to help them heal. I'm not sure what it would do with that wound.

How do I get a sample? He peed in his crate today! He was crated for 6 hours while I was at work
I carefully tape a paper cup on the end of a yard stick. Lots of tape. Then I pour it into a small plastic container with lid from the Dollar Store. They come in a package 4 for $1.00.
I'm sure other people will have different idea's.

I do so wish someone would make a complete prosthetic leg that can be used on a leg amputation.
We put a t-shirt or boxer shorts (depending on the leg) on ours following amputation if needed. Thankfully no one has pulled their staples out. (Knock on wood)
This is Vallery with her prosthetic from OrthoPets in Denver, CO. Part of her foot was amputated due to a racing injury.

What is Ami's racing name? We might have a sibling or relative?

Also I just want to state, the adoption agency should have never placed a "harder" greyhound with a first time owner.
I DO SO AGREE
There are many greyhound people who take in these "harder" to place greyhounds. They are special needs greyhounds and we turn them into "Love Bugs"

Dr.Ben-Amotz was Johnny's surgeon at Ohio State. We liked him a lot.

Please remember she might have some break thru seizures now and then. Hopefully not but just be aware of it.

Our Vet started us on Scarlet Oil for healing wounds. I love it. Anyone else use it?

You can google and research what to do during a seizure. Watch for signs (aura) and maybe you can avoid one. At least if you figure out the Aura you will have a few seconds notice before the seizure. Do not be surprised if they have cluster seizures or seizure 3 days in a row.
Some tricks I have used:
Drop of honey in the mouth, spike the blood glucose (I think),
Put something cold on the back of their neck or where ever.
I keep plenty of bags of frozen vegs so I can place them around them.
Spray there pads with alcohol to cool them off.
Talk to them to try to occupy their brain.
I rate them and keep a calendar of them. Full-moon is always exciting. We have had patterns develop where it was 2 weeks after the full moon or before the full moon. Watch for a pattern.
Have towels handy to place under head and put under them to absorb pee.
Keep chew sticks or something for them to chew on after seizure.
One of us usually sleeps with them that night. DH is a floor sleeper.

We take in seizure greyhounds. They have all been controlled with Pheno and KBr. We think 2 of them had brain tumors. Their seizures were a little different. We have one right now that has 2 mild seizures a month so he is not on any meds yet. Two of our own personal seizure greyhounds lived to be 15 years old. They passed away from old age. You will probably never know what cases the seizures.
I know there is new modern medicine now besides the Pheno and KBr. Seeing as these were foster dogs we stayed with what the groups vet recommended.
Vets in the know with seizure dogs say not more shots. There immune system is comprised already.

I agree with Kari, If there is a tumor you will know soon enough. Oh, how you will know.

We take in Seniors and special needs greyhounds so have these problems. They usually set themselves up with an emergency potty area. In your case the laundry room. We lay reusable incontinence pads down in their area. We lay down a double layer or triple layer. We can just pick up the soiled pad and place in the washer. With layering you are ready for the next emergency as you may forget to lay down a fresh one.
He can not help it when he has to go and probably feels really bad about going in the house. It's like a person on Lasix. No time to bark, gotta go. I have used belly bands but feel bad they are old and going around wet. This could also bring on a UTI.

I think it is a marking issue.
We have had them do this. It's funny with a little girl. She doesn't want anyone else to eat out of her food dish. She is marking her food dish. She should get over it. Do you have a crate to feed her in? She might feel more at ease knowing for sure that it was her dish.

You can check out this website. It tells you how to bandage the tail. Best of luck.
Wetting Her Crate During The Workday...

Did anyone mention getting a washable incontinent pad to put in the crate under the usual blanket? This will absorb if necessary. Otherwise it's just there in the crate. I use them. Every now and then someone didn't take care of business. I can just throw the pad in the washer, give the bottom of the crate a quick wipe down if needed.
