  1. It's probably going to take several treatments before you'll see any difference. Flippy is getting chemo every other week for 6 months for her mast cell, and the months are dragging by. I'm curious...why wasn't the tumor removed so he would be more comfortable, and then followed up with chemo?
  2. Oh Tracy, I'm so sorry. Abby will let you know when she's had enough and your oncologist is correct that she could have an event when you're not there or in the middle of the night. I was warned about that with my momma dog, Wanda and decided to let her go. She had given the cancer a good fight and I didn't want her fighting it anymore. She was my heart dog and it was the hardest thing I've ever done. You're in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs to you, Ellen and Abby
  3. I use the pads from JRS medical supply. I bought the 34x52 and they're the perfect size. You can put one inside the bed, and then one over the bed for protection. They wash great and JRS ships fast.
  4. I'm so sorry Kim. The video is greyt. Patsie will be 13 on Sun. and she throws toys around before dinner...more like a temper tantrum because her highness isn't getting served fast enough. Run with the Angels, Chloe.
  5. Run strong and healthy with the angels, beautiful girl. I'm so sorry Claudia.

I'm sorry and I know your heart is broken. Remember the good things...what a beautiful girl and now a beautiful angel.
  7. Flippy gets Vinblastine and then a week off and then Ceenu and a week off before the next vinblastine, and she feels greyt. Usually on day 3 or 4 post chemo her energy level is a little low and she spends the day roaching on the sofa. Her appetite is greyt and she hasn't had any side effects at all. When Flippy gets the vinblastin I drop her off at the vet, and she gets her IV and she's observed for about 2 hours after the treatment. I administer the Ceenu at home so that's easy. You do need to take precautions for 3-4 days after the chemo is given because they do shed chemo in their urine, feces, saliva and tears. I wash my hands a lot but I don't isolate her from the other dogs. It would break her heart if I did. Your oncologist should tell you or give you a list of side effects and other things you'll need to know. Since Riley is in a program they'll probably have lots of instructions for you. Most studies have a strict protocol and they'll want you to help them by following it.
  8. Pattie, the dosage of Sam E is 400mg 1 hour before a meal. It needs to be given on an empty stomach. For a dog with liver disease, or a dog like Flippy who's going thru chemo the dosage is 400 mg 1 hour before meal, twice a day. This dosage was from my vet for Wanda when she had hemangiosarcoma, and the oncologist recommended the same dosage for Flippy. Flashy may need his thyroid levels checked also. Sam-E and milk thistle are good even for a healthy dog, for a dog on meds or post surgery because it helps protect the liver.
  9. Meredith, we're sending prayers and hugs for you and Jackson.
  10. Continued prayers for Diamond. I sure hope that dog's owner is paying the vet bills!!!
  11. Sending lots of good thoughts and prayers, and hugs for you and Dallas.
  12. So glad you have a diagnosis now. Lincoln and I can both be bionic.
  13. Susan, I am so sorry! It's so hard when they go suddenly and my heart is breaking for you. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
  14. Flippy is on combo chemo for mast cell and with her oncologists approval she is taking Sam-E and Marin for liver support. If Riley is doing a blind study, they'll probably be strict on what he can and can't have. Supplements can change how chemo works and even make it so it doesn't work, so you should discuss diet and supplements with your oncologist. Flippy's appetite has never changed, and she continues to be a little piggy. The only difference I've noticed in her, is about 3-4 days post treatment, her energy level is down for a day or so and then she's back to normal. And yes, tripe is good! Flippy gets 1lb a day of fresh tripe and loves it, she also gets nutritional yeast daily for the B vitamins. If I remember correctly, Riley isn't a greyhound so you might want to join an all breed or breed specific group, since greys and other breeds differ in how they react to drugs. Good luck with the treatments. I was a nervous wreck the first week, but Flippy has made it easy for me.
  15. I know Jennifer is playing catch up at work today. Hopefully she'll get a chance later to update us.
  16. How did it go, Jennifer? Inquiring minds want to know.
  17. Sorry everyone for not updating . Flippy is doing good! She's the Super Girl! The vet thinks her lump is an internal suture and we're going to keep an eye on it for now...if it changes shape or gets larger, then it will come out immediately. After a little trouble getting Flippy's lomustine this past week, I picked it up today and she had her 2nd dose. So she's had 3 doses of chemo, only 11 more to go. Flippy's bloodwork on Mon. was perfect. Her white blood cell count was 4000, her pack cells were good, and her liver enzymes were perfect. The lomustine is hard on the liver so I'm giving Flippy Sam-E and Marin and it's obviously helping to keep her liver normal. Flippy has gained back almost 4lbs after losing 6, so I'm a happy mom. Yesterday, Flippy ran zoomies all over the yard, in between tornado watches, and severe thunderstorms. So the SUPER GIRL is doing SUPER!
  18. Sorry Robin, I didn't see this until today. Flippy gets pred for the cancer. It's suppose to help shrink the tumor and she's on a maintenance dose now. She initially lost weight in the form of muscle, but she's gaining weight back now though it's not muscle. I'm trying to keep her at a healthy weight so she can tolerate the chemo treatment.
  19. Pred needs to be given with food so Flippy gets her's wrapped in a piece of cheese and put in her food. She gobbles her food and the cheese is there so I can see it and make sure she eats it. She gets most of her pills in cheese and thrown in her dish. She's a piggy but she sometimesl will politely set her pills aside.
  20. I've never used the liquid form but I'm currently giving Milk Thistle along with Sam-E to Flippy to support her liver and joints while she's undergoing chemo therapy. She gets 800mg of Sam-E and 1000mg of milk thistle in capsule form. Flippy weighs 66lbs and my other girl who got it for liver support weighed 75lbs and she got the same dosage.
  21. Flippy is on 20 mg every other day and she thinks I'm starving her to death. She's constantly looking for food.
  22. Sending good thoughts and prayers. Hopefully it was nothing more than a pinched nerve and once Sizzle got moving, it eased up. I have a couple who get "a hitch in their getalong" as we call it. It happens once in a while after they've been sleeping or were out running hard and then had a nap. Usually it's a little muscle stiffness, and works it's way out after they get up and move around.
  23. Silence at night is sometimes hard to get use to. Try to get some rest.
  24. Flippy, the Super Girl could use some more prayers and good thoughts! I found a pea size lump today on her neck, near her incision. It could be a suture or scar tissue, but it wasn't there 2 days ago so I'm a little concerned. Flippy is also losing weight and is so thin. She's eating good and is getting 4 meals a day, but she' skinny. Other than those little bumps in the road, her activity level is good and everything is functioning normal. I'll give her vet a call on Mon to see if she needs a check-up before her next chemo treatment on the 6th. Thank you everyone.
  25. We're thinking of you and Merlin. It's hard when they get older and even harder when they're diagnosed with cancer. Treasure all the time you have and have had.
