Guest Arrow
I just went to feed my cats in the laundry room and my oldest guy is dead in there. I can't stop crying. My parents are coming to help me, I have had him for 11 years, and he's all hard. I can't pick him up. I've never had a pet die.

Guest Arrow
Thanks, I'm getting calmer. I thought I was going to throw up before from stress. I went and looked at him again, he's curled up with his face in his paws, looking very comfortable. I am positive he died so fast he didn't have time to react, which is helping me deal with this. He's 21 lbs and I had worked for years to get him down to a better weight, but with the other 2 cats it was hard to restrict his food and not theirs. He was following me around the yard with the dogs on Tuesday, so I know it wasn't a painful sickness he had. My guess would be a heart attack or some type of stroke. What an awful feeling, I knew someday I'd be hit with it, but he was my very first pet and none have passed away before him. I have to call the vets office and see if they want to see him, or should my parents and I find a nice place to bury him now. I never understood the need people had to find soft things to bury pets in, now I know. I want him to be happy. There I go again.
Guest Guest
My condolences. A similar thing happened with my dear, old cat that I had for 14 years since she was a kitten and I was just kid. I live alone and she would usually greet me when I came home. I knew something was not right when she was not there when I opened the door. I found her on the couch, curled up as if she were sleeping. She did not wake up when I called to her and that awful feeling realizing she was dead hit me. She took a cat nap and never woke up. She looked so peaceful, I think her heart just stopped beating. I freaked out and could not pick her up. I called my brother (not a pet person but he really acted like one in this case), he came over, picked up the cat and put her in box (on top of a blanket I layed in there) and drove me to the vets where I had her privately cremated. I feel your shock and pain over the death of your beloved kitty and wish you strength to cope with loss.

Guest Arrow
Yeah, the hyperventilating while trying to tell my mom over the phone wasn't pleasant. My poor mom. I'll have to try and explain that I'm sorry I panicked. I really appreciate the comments, and to everyone who has lost a pet, you have my sympathy. Guest how888
The loss of a pet is hard enough let alone the way you had to find yours. My deepest sympathy.11 years is a long time, may all your wonderful memories help you get through the pain. Guest Snowy8
Bless your heart...I know....we all know how you feel. Finding any pet is traumatic...whether you've had them all their life or just a short time. My orange & white cat, Jjaks had an anerysm & died while I was at work...he was all stretched out like he had been sleeping, in the cool bathroom...which was good...where no one would bother him. He must've known. Try to stay calm...mom & dad will be there soon & we're all here for you.

Guest Arrow
Here is the email I sent out to my friends who have sent warm wishes. This is my last post, I am going to move on, and just remember him in my heart now. Someday, when I have the space and time, I will get another orange tabby. I hadn't mentioned before, but Bonkers was the last of a litter a stray cat had in my yard 11 years ago. Me and my parents took in the kittens, kept three and found homes for 2; Tubs was the sweetest cat ever, but was hit by a car when he was three; Ollie was my Mom's sweetheart and died last year of Diabetes; and Bonkers passed yesterday. All beautiful tabbies. Thanks for your concern, I was pretty much in shock and hyperventilating when I found him. I couldn't seem to believe that he was gone, he just looked like a happy sleeping cat. Then I couldn't imagine trying to pick him up, all cold and stiff. Thank God my parents came out to help. I knew I'd have nightmares last night, and I did, so I didn't sleep well. I do not however believe I treated him badly, and I know he was a happy cat. He was overweight and I should have worked harder on getting him thin. Most days he'd come out and greet me when I drove up, and I would always scratch him on the head. I moved the cats into the laundry-room and backyard months ago, but I would still go in and give them attention. They were warm and happy, but even after months, Bonkers would still try to come into the rest of the house. The other two won't come in, they are afraid of Arrow. He meowed at me through my window 2 days ago, and didn't look the least bit sick. I meowed back. Whatever it was, it was sudden and most likely, painless. So.. the vet office took him for cremation. I didn't keep the ashes, but I will put up a marker in my garden, and plant a flowering bush for him. /hug

Guest auntiesara
What a terrible shock. Having a memorial to him in the garden will help. i have had a hard time picking up my birds who have passed to put them in cookie tins for their funerals. At least he was in his own home- most kitties hate to go to the hospital and he was spared that traumatic experience. He may send you a sign to know he's okay and I promise you that you WILL be reunited... Sara
