Guest bongoboy
Hi all We adopted our greyhound 6 months ago. He is 8. Yesterday he whined when he stepped down from his bed and he seemed to be breathing a little heavier. No other symptoms previous to this. We went to our primary vet who thought it was back pain and sent us to get a 2nd opinion at a specialist. There they ran bloodwork and found his white cells were high. They did a ultrasound and found he had fluid in abdomen and lungs. They said that when they find fluid in both areas like that its 80% chance of cancer. They looked at the cells and found the mesothelia cells look inflamed and aggrivated. They took 1.5 liters of fluid off of him and are sending the fluid for testing. Has anyone ever had this? We are super worried as my husband also lost his job a month ago and money is tight. It cost us 1500 yesterday that we had to put on credit cards. The next step they are talking about is doing a biopsy to see if it is cancer. They said it might also be heart but they don't think that it is what it is, they think it is mesothelioma

Houndtime
I have no advice just wishing you best of luck with your boy. Do they have to run all these tests, or can they just treat? I have been to vet's where they said what is the difference if they know for a fact as the treatment would be the same. Ask. JJNg
Do they have to run all these tests, or can they just treat? I have been to vet's where they said what is the difference if they know for a fact as the treatment would be the same. Ask. For some problems, this might be a reasonable option, but unfortunately not when it's something as serious as cancer vs. heart disease. Treatment options would be very different, with a hugely different prognoses. Sending good thoughts for your greyhound, bongoboy. What's his name?
