I have to pick some metacam up from the vet today, apparently she's giving me 2 weeks worth to see if that help's with Finn's leg pain. The cost is over 50 bucks. I'm splitting a 7.5mg pill into halves, then shaving a bit off that for a 65-pound dog. 30 pills (60 days) costs me $8 at Walgreens. It's hard on the stomach, so give pepcid (famotidine) before food, pill after food. LOL Finn is 76 lbs and if this works and he has to be on it all the time, or even just for the winter, that's over 100 bucks a month for pain meds. Not that I don't love him to pieces but if I know I can get something else cheaper, it makes no sense for me to spend that kind of money just to get it from a vet's office. She just needs time to calculate for his weight before I can pick that and the cd with his x-rays up. So yay. Now I am just hoping the meloxicam is going to be cheaper than what I would have to pay at the vet. LOL Do they write it out in the dogs name or mine? JohnF Posted November 30, 2012 Share Posted November 30, 2012 My last dog was switched to from Metacam to Meloxicam by the vet. Have the kidney function tested before starting a drug of this type as it can exacerbate CRF (make sure they're aware of Greyhound kidney values).
