3greytjoys
Does anyone know the average time for full recovery from a toe amputation (front outside digit)? Edited May 30, 2012 by 3greytjoys
Charlies_Dad
Our Jack had an outside digit removed last year on his front left paw. It took him a couple weeks to stop 'limping' on it as he favoured it for a bit. greysmom
Two weeks post-surgery should be good. Your dog might favor that leg for a bit, but the surgical site will be healed, barring complications. calif_chaz
Sam had a middle toe on right hind foot amputated a few years ago and it is about 2 weeks. He healed well and it was the best decision I ever made for him! He had been reduced to 3 legging it the days before surgery so we really had no choice but it was the right thing to do. He healed and never looked back.

Guest madredhare
My foster Hannah had an inside toe removed 2 weeks ago. She has done really well. Has hardly limped on it at all. Where as before, she wouldn't put any weight on it and walked a lot on 3 legs. Still waiting for the hair to grow back, but other than that it looks really good and she doesn't seem to miss it. 3greytjoys
Thanks so much for your replies. Approximately two weeks of recovery is great news, and faster than expected. Hopefully, a successful amputation will eliminate a painful limp from a fracture/tumor.
