Guest btbunn
Hi! My 5 year old greyhound, Harley snuck a bag of gingersnaps and ate them all in the night. Now he has diarrhea. No vomitting. Everything else seems fine. Is it safe to give him Imodium. He has no intestinal worms or anything else like that. We have JUST recently left the vet, and I know it's because he ate like 20 gingersnaps. What do you guys know? Help me if you can. What do you do to help with this? Surely every bout of diarrhea doesn't require an expensive vet visit. Thanks
Greytlady94
Imodium is fine. Quote Greyhound angels at the bridge- Casey, Charlie, Maggie, Molly, Renie, Lucy & Teddy. Guest Lakota
I would let it run it's course. He's probably pretty much done anyways
cleptogrey
let him poop it out and call it a day, maybe serve a big bowl of rice for dinner.emily ate an entire container of trader joe's chocolate cat cookies, she had a blast and then chocolate liquid poops for a day. neither the cookies or the cocoa content did anything harmful. GeorgeofNE
No, not every bout of diarrhea requires the vet--especially if you know what caused it. Kaopectate is fine, as are the immodium capsules (easier to give sometimes). If you're new to dogs, there is a great book called Dog Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook Really helpful to determine what's an emergency and what isn't. Also gives guidance on what human OTC remedies are safe and which aren't. I think everyone should own a copy.
