Guest nctarbugs
My Dollie has been limping around for about 2 days now. We checked her huffs on her left leg b/c she was licking, but did not see anything wrong or any cuts. Last night we looked again and the huff (Black part they walk on)has begin to tear on the side and you can see fresh pink under it. Not sure how this happened, but alittle worried. Not sure if this is like a human and just dead skin now and it will heal itself or do I need to get her to the vet. I have put wound lotion on it for now. Thanks for your help. Guest mbfilby
A torn pad is painful, but not something I would take to a vet. Our pup tore nearly all the pads on both hind legs. Use antibiotic cream or bag balm. If the pad is badly torn, cover with a toddler sock.
Guest BrianRke
I would take her to the vet. There is always a chance of infection, especially on the foot.
TheFullHouse
Not much you can do for it but let it heal. The vet would probably give you some antibiotics to prevent infection but if you keep it clean it should be fine. gryhnd_adoptee
We do warm Epsom Salt soaks here. Let her stand with her foot in a pot for as long as she will stand it....belly rubs and lots of sweet talk helps them to tolerate it better while standing there waiting for the time to pass. Guest nctarbugs
Thanks for all the info. Talked to vet. and they said continue to put cream on her pad and keep clean. Going to use the sock method. GeorgeofNE
Huff? Never heard that expression before. Epsom salts should help a lot. Make sure you keep it clean and dry after soaking. Guest greygirls2
after cleaning and drying....Manuka honey! best thing for healing. You can use straight honey or get the Dr. Nordyke's Wound Honey from Amazon, it contains some aloe and vitamins mixed in with the Manuka honey. We used it on Diamond's wounds and my grand greys pad which was cut right through. heals things up really fast and it's a natural antibiotic too. Guest FullMetalFrank
My girls have run their pads raw a couple of times. They heal pretty quickly; we used baby sox for Chelsa because she is a licker.
