Walliered
My dog, Da Vid, has been on Prozac for about 1 1/2 weeks now for thunderphobia. It is not working at all and is actually making him very nervous and afraid when the sky is blue. Also, he is not peeing very often (every 12 hours or so). I want to take him off of the 40mg of Prozac daily. Can I just stop abruply? Thanks
NevadasMom
Not sure about canine, but in humans any psychiatric med should be tapered off. Quote Carol-Glendale, AZ Trolley (Figsiza Trollyn) Nevada 1992-2008...always in my heart
Busderpuddle
I just got back from the vet to discuss Ruby and her being on Prozac. It has turned her in to a shaky, trembling, lip smacking, jaw chomping, afraid of everything mess and he suggested weaning her off of it. He said to go every other day for 2 weeks, then stop. She has been on it for 6 weeks now. It increased her S.A. dramatically. I hope you can find some relief for Da Vid. Quote Karen
Guest krystolla
Don't stop abruptly. I did it (to myself) once, and it sucks. A lot. For me it meant I got to keep the side effects for about two weeks but the desirable effects went away. I was really careful about getting my prescription refilled on time after that! For what it's worth, 1 1/2 weeks isn't enough to for prozac to really build up in the system so it shouldn't take too long to wean off it. I hope you can find something that works better for Da Vid, poor guy.
