Guest Greyt_dog_lover
So my wife and I went out of town for 4 days last week and had to leave our hounds at a kennel. This kennel is an old racing kennel and is run by a retired racing owner, so the safety of the hounds is never in question (if they ate something they shouldnt, came in contact with other hounds, ect.). We picked all three hounds up from the kennels Sunday evening. Everything seemed fine. On Wed, my wife said that after I left, she woke up because she heard a dog's stomach growling and thought they might be hungry. It turns out that our boy Bart's tummy has been making very loud gurgling noises the last few mornings. This morning my wife said that Bart didnt wake her up for breakfast (the normal culprit of early morning wake up), which is very out of character. She went on to say that when she fed everyone, Bart was the last one to finish and really didnt act like he wanted to finish, he kept on looking up at her while he was eating. She then took everyone out and proceeded to pick up some poo. When she got back up to the deck, Bart was eating his vomit. I was also told that Bart seems to be a bit "grumpy" with the other dogs growling when they get too close to him while he is laying down. We cannot find anything around the house that he would have eaten (blockage concern) as he is not inclined to eat inappropriate things. We also know that at the kennels, the only thing in his kennel other than bowels would be shredded paper (just like at the track). When I get home tonight, I will test his belly and other areas for tenderness, and anything else I can think of, but just wondering if anyone has any ideas? Thanks, Chad
Guest IrskasMom
My Concern is , that is has been going on for a few Days....hmmm . My Morty once in a while has an upset Stomach with gurgling sound so loud, it wakes me up at Night. Well he will not get any Breakfast (even so he has not eaten his Dinner the Night before ) and later for Dinner , it will be boiled Chicken and Rice with warm Water and a Pepcid .Usualy it takes care of his Upset Tummy. If this Continuous and he acts funny ..... VET .
TheFullHouse
How are his stools? It may just be a little tummy upset, a bug or something he caught while in the kennel. They go through groups of dogs so fast. I'd watch his stools, if no big D and he continues to vomit, I'd put him on a light diet for a couple of days, nothing heavy like his regular kibble, maybe chicken and rice, or boiled hamburger and rice. Make sure he's getting enough water. If he continues to vomit, and has runny pooh and isn't drinking then I'd take him in to the vet. If it's a little bug, watch the other two, chances are they may come down with it also. mychip1
My Dustin does that when he has a stomach bug - particularly the growling....and the last stomach bug he got was after we (with him) went to New York. The vet feels that the stress of his life being different and possible exposure to some bug he has not been exposed to before. Growly stomach, bloody diarreah, etc. I did go to the vet because of the blood at the time...An antibiotic did the trick. Other times, he gets tummy growls, vomits, and has loose stools and gets over it within a day or two. I agree that if by tonight he is not better, I would have him checked. Guest longdoglady
I would also be concerned about pancreatitis, especially if he is grumpy with the other dogs as it is painful. Hopefully it will be a tummy bug but either way I would rest his tummy and get him checked out.

Guest IrskasMom
Is there an Update on Bart ???
Guest Greyt_dog_lover
So when I got home yesterday I palpitated (I think that is the term for squeezing and pushing) Bart's abdomen and other parts. No grumbling or acting stressed. Bart finished #2 with dinner (he is usually #1). He did want treats, and wasnt his totally nutty self when I got home, he did play with me out in the yard when I tried to get him to play. This morning no grubling tummy and he was back to #1 finishing his breakfast. He is following my wife around the house right now trying to get treats as we are getting ready to take our foster to his forever home. Thanks for the good thoughts and ideas. I will keep a very close eye on him to see if anything seems out of the norm, but it would appear that he is back to normal. Strange...
