Hello From South Carolina

Hey everyone, I joined a while back but never had a chance to read much. Been trying to get on here a little more recently and figured I should go ahead and post an intro. My name is Jennifer, and I have 2 greys adopted through Greyhound Crossroads in SC.

Willow is my first grey, and I got her in Jan 2007 at 2 years old. She was a spook at the track, but most people who meet her now would never know it. Willow came from Heather's kennel (I believe she's an active member here), and I thought it was awesome when Heather featured Willow in her blog:

http://fishdoggies.blogspot.com/2009/04/no-transports-today-more-on-sat.html

Willow was sick for most of last year with a mysterious illness which we were never able to diagnose. Her signs included swollen lymph nodes and inflammation, fever, generalized muscle soreness, and swollen painful joints. I consulted with our local specialists, and we suspected Bartonella (a flea/tick-borne bacterial disease) but were never able to confirm it despite running just about every test possible. We ended up treating with a combination of traditional meds (antibiotics and pred) along with acupuncture and Chinese herbs, and Willow is now doing great.

Here are a few pics of my girl:

Wiki is my newest canine addition and joined the family in Nov 2008. He is a goofy boy who loves everyone and keeps me laughing with his antics. He loves to snuggle but unfortunately none of my other dogs share that desire. Willow will put up with him, and while she was indifferent to him in the beginning, he's really grown on her.

A "special" moment I was able to capture on film... :lol

Here's a video of a 2nd attempt at what led up to the above photo:

My current pack also includes a whippet named Ollie, and a mixed breed (maybe border collie/spaniel) Corey. I also have 2 cats and a quaker parrot. If anyone is interested, here are links to more pics (public links - you don't need a Facebook account to view them):

Welcome, Jennifer! I love your pics on Facebook. I'm not on FB, but like you said, I was still able to view them. The roaching pics are so funny. Harley used to roach a lot. I love the pic of Wiki trying to make himself small enough to fit on the little bed. LOL.

And, that video is hilarious! I won't spoil it by telling about it, but his "attempt" was so funny. I can tell he keeps you in stitches. He reminds me of Harley as a young boy. I got Harley from WAG in CT, and they advertised him as a big goofy boy. Looks like Wiki is another goofy boy.

All your pets are so gorgeous. Corey is such a beauty too, as is your whippet, Ollie. I don't see whippets unless I attend a greyhound event. My neighborhood has a few greys, but no whippets. I occasionally see the Italian greyhounds also.

What do the hounds think of that pretty parrot? Do they watch him, or just indifferent? I saw cat pics also - very pretty kitty. We have 3 cats, who love Harley, and like to rub up against him--their way of saying I love you to him.

I'm glad to hear Willow is doing so well after the illness. She is beautiful, and I love her name. I have always wanted to name a female greyhound Willow. It is a beautiful name for a beautiful dog. It happens that I had boys, except Lee Ann, who my ex and I had in the '90s. When we split, my ex kept Lee Ann and his boxer Lucky. I kept my dear Waggie, who was attached to me like glue.

Well, I just wanted to say hi Jennifer, and tell you what a beautiful fur family you have. :)

They're all so beautiful! I feel so voyeuristic when I trawl through peoples' facebook photos, but your pups are so gorgeous - I especially love the pic of the 3 hound bums and the flicker of tail on the side. :colgate

I love love love whippets - it's funny, I hardly ever saw greys or whippets around my city until I started looking into fostering, and suddenly they're EVERYWHERE. It's great!

Thanks for the welcome, everyone! And good to see some familiar 'faces' too. :)

To answer Sherry's question about the dogs and the parrot....they mostly just ignore her. But when I have Jadey out with me, they stay away and act like they are afraid of her. :lol All my dogs are good with small critters, but they're still not allowed together unsupervised.

Here are a couple of my favorite photos of Wiki with a days' old kitten that a friend raised, showing just how 'small safe' he is...

:wave Hi from Philly. Willow and Wiki are stunning. It was good to read that Willow is better now and the blog spot was awesome.

I also have a retired Fish Doggie in my home, DonnieDude retired from B'ham. He is more like Wiki, a big goofy boy.

Will you be at Mt.Hounds?

Again, welcome.

Hi Jennifer! I love the big dog/small bed photo, and the day-old kitten shots are just about as cute as you can get! I love a brindle hound, and Willow is a beauty.

Welcome Jennifer! Glad you made it to GT :)

Just got your FB message and I'm going to try to make it down for one day of racing this weekend. I was packing for vacation last week and found all the LGRA racing silks I'd ordered forever ago! I'll probably keep it simple and only bring one hound for the first time.

Our Mickey came from GC fostered by the Owens.. Best darned pup ever.. Welcome to GT.

And your avatar always make me smile b/c it was taken in our back yard :)

Heather, I think this picture of Mickey is absolutely stunning, and is my favorite of the 100s of pic we have of her.. I often wondered where it was taken..

Mickey is beautiful! Good to 'meet' another GC pup.

Heather, great to see you on here! Looks like we'll have a decent greyhound entry this weekend. Have 6 entered so far. And a couple more practicing Saturday who might enter Sunday. Let me know once you're sure if you decide to come and who you're bringing!

Hey Jennifer! I live in Anderson, SC just down the road. ::: waves ::: :wave

I have a Whippet also. He is a rescue and VERY chubby and spoiled. I tease him and tell him he is a disgrace to his kind. He's my bed buddy and my little shadow.

I'm new too...as of today, actually!
