What's a good age for a Greyhound to be put on glucosamine? One of mine is on it now and she's 5. She has a lot of joint problems. Two of my others are 10 and I've started them on it as well.

What's your opinion?

I put both girls on it as soon as we got them. Sunshine was the youngest at 2. I figure it couldn't hurt since they are large breed dogs.

Mine are young and both on it--Nigel @750 mg daily (he is 2.5 years old) and 1.5 year old Allistair gets a full dose of 1500 mg daily as he has a surgically repaired fracture.

I have two dogs that came to me as puppies, both had very significant orthopedic injuries and subsequent surgeries. I've had them both on glucosamine once their surgeries were healed (about 16 weeks old). Keeva is now 8 and Bella will be three tomorrow.

Dutch is 3.5 years old and I give him this:

for his weight it is more economical than anything I have seen in the stores and more pleasant for him = chew able tablet he eats with his food, rather than an osteo byflex half tablet I had to toss down his throat.

Mine are 5.5 and started when we got them at 4. Brucie had bad ankles and was retired as a result. Glucosamine has eliminated any limping after running in the yard, which he used to get. So it clearly works for him...no limping I hope = no pain.

I started at six (maybe five?), before arthritis set in.
