nyGreys
QUOTE(Burpdog @ Dec 2 2009, 12:54 PM) Glad she is doing well!!! Also might think of pulsing Antirobe first 5 days of each month. Works for a lot of greys. Forgive my ignorance, Diane, but what is that? I'm so glad Abby is doing well. You give the appropriate dose of Antirobe (clindamyacin) for the first 5 days of every month, each month. It keep the bacteria down which in turns keeps the inflamation and infection in check. Thanks Diane, I'll ask my vet about this. Abby is feeling fine today. She's on antibiotics for 7 days. Thank you all again for your prayers & suggestions. greysmom
Just had this turn up in our latest newletter about one of our foster dogs, appropriately named "Abby." I'd never heard of this before, but it may be what your Abby is dealing with too. What is not so beautiful is Abby’s mouth. Greyhounds are known to have (like all sighthounds) a problem with dental disease – having the long snouts that they do, a great deal of air is passing over their teeth, making them susceptible to accumulations of plaque. A short time after Abby’s dental, redness and mouth odor, signaled the need for further treatment. Abby was treated for CUPS (Canine Ulcerative Periodontal Stomatitis) with some success. CUPS is ulceration and inflammation of the mouth mucosa that touches the crowns of the teeth. A lot is unknown about the condition, but for some reason dogs with CUPS can not tolerate the presence of bacterial plaque on their teeth. In order to do further testing and ensure her treatment was aimed in the right direction, Abby had to be removed from the medications for 45 days. At that time she had blood tests and tissue was sent out for biopsy. The results confirmed no cancer or autoimmune deficit, and were consistent with the existence of CUPS. Now that we have eliminated some questions marks, Abby’s treatment is being guided by a veterinary dentist. Abby’s condition will require life-long dental care including daily teeth brushing and likely ongoing or sporadic courses of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. She will also face the loss of a number of teeth, if not all of them, over time. Fortunately, teeth are not essential to a good life – ask many senior greyhounds who happily gum their food and keep on trucking! Abby is loving, attentive and looking for a family that Hope this helps. chris Edited December 3, 2009 by greysmom Quote Chris - Mom to: Felicity (DeLand), and Andi (Braska Pandora) siggy by Chris Harper, on Flickr Angels: Libby (Everlast), Dorie (Dog Gone Holly), Dude (TNJ VooDoo), Copper (Kid's Copper), Cash (GSI Payncash), Toni (LPH Cry Baby), Whiskey (KT's Phys Ed), Atom, Lilly
