Guest jillz
My poor grey, all of a sudden is really chewing at and licking her paws, she's managed to remove quite a bit of hair and they look very sore. She is 7 y.o. and still runs around fine and is eating fine, no change in diet or grooming. I've tried cleaning her paws with warm water and antibacterial creams, I also sprayed bitter yuck on them ( like bitter apple but won't burn), she just licks right through it. Any suggestions? Also, I read some people use fish oil, her skin does always seem dry and flakey how much fish oil should you add to food (is it a liquid or capsule). I tried some expensive spray for dry skin from the vet but that hasn't helped at all. Thanks!!!

Guest FrostyBottoms
RAGWEED? My Vinny suffers from seasonal allergies. He is allergic to ragweed. His paws are so red. I had him on a reallly strong antihistamine, but it had a steroid in it and gave him bad diarrhea, so I took him off and I've been giving him benadryl. His paws are still red, but he isn't licking as much....but he is a zombie on the benadryl.
CaliforniaGreys
I would suspect allergies, but you should talk to your vet. Benadryl may help but I would run that by your vet. As for the fish oil, I use EicosaDerm which is the omega-3 fatty acids and vit e. GreyPoopon
Betsy is going through this. It seems to be some sort of reaction to grass, or perhaps to the various fungi on it. It's worse when the grass is damp. At the suggestion of her vet, I've got her on Benadryl, which is helping. I'm using 50mg 3X/day, which the vet says is at the low end of the dosage range. It's enough for dry days but not for wet. This is the first year that Betsy has had the problem, although she does have a perpetually itchy back. TheFullHouse
Sounds like allergies. You can wash the feet off when coming in from outside and give 50 mg. benadryl every 4 to 6 hours. Could be seasonal allergies and once winter sets in your pup may be fine. Guest TheUnrulyHound
Sometimes it can be a yeast type infection too, if the benadryl doesn't help I would have the vet take a scraping and look at it
