ChiliDog
Took Joe in for a stitches removal and the vet noticed something weird with his eyes. Glaucoma with 2 uveal melanoma patches in his left eye, no glaucoma but what appears to be a uveal melanoma spot on his right. Anyone have any experience with this? GeorgeofNE
Don't know if this helps at all, but my father has an honest to goodness MOLE on his eye. He's had it his whole life, and it's harmless. Is the vet SURE or just guessing? Quote Susan, Hamish, Mister Bigglesworth and Nikita Stanislav. Missing Ming, George, and Buck

He was sure about the glaucoma and the cataract - he wants us to come back in a few weeks for the other "spots" to see if they are getting larger. He actually took a picture of Joe's eyes for comparison next time. (I don't know if it means anything but the last time Joe was weighed he was 77 and today he was 72 ) Quote Donna & The League of Extraordinary Greyhounds Adoption Squad; Buffy and Rik T

ChiliDog
It gets to a point where I'm afraid to bring them in to the "torturenarian" even if it's just for a little thing.... Burpdog
Is this an eye specialist? If not, I'd get to one if you can. Sending prayers. Quote Diane & The Senior Gang Burpdog Biscuits

(I don't know if it means anything but the last time Joe was weighed he was 77 and today he was 72 ) How did he determine Joe has glaucoma? I'm not saying he's wrong--I just didn't know dogs GOT it, or that a regular vet would have access to the equipment to test the interocular (one c or two?) pressure! Mild cataracts at Joe's age are no big deal. Quote Susan, Hamish, Mister Bigglesworth and Nikita Stanislav. Missing Ming, George, and Buck
ChiliDog
Is this an eye specialist? If not, I'd get to one if you can. Sending prayers. Thanks, no it was his regular vet. We will be making an appointment with an ophthalmologist once Klaus gets over his bypass surgery recovery . How did he determine Joe has glaucoma? Mild cataracts at Joe's age are no big deal. I also thought it needed interocular pressure, very bizarre. Although it WOULD make sense that Joe can't see too well.... I've noticed that when we wait for the elevator in the building (we've got 2 elevators side by each) and he hears the door open he walks straight ahead, occasionally banging into the door of the CLOSED elevator he was standing in front of, as the other one had opened. We just thought it was because of his pee brain... but - we may have unjustly accused him of pee brainedness Quote Donna & The League of Extraordinary Greyhounds Adoption Squad; Buffy and Rik T
Guest jerrybird
Dogs can definately have glaucoma. There are medicines that will control the intraoccular pressures but they need to be monitored closely with regular checkups by a veterinary opthamologist.
