Guest Greensleeves
Good luck with this! We've had this happen four or five times now. Often they can get the infection under control for a while with antibiotics, but I think ultimately the best thing is to remove the damaged tooth. They probably want to let her heal some so that she can be as strong as possible if she needs an extraction. The tooth this is happening to is the fourth pre-molar, which has three huge roots that branch out at odd angles and nearly penetrate the nasal sinus. The extraction is difficult and takes a lot of work and time, but afterward they normally bounce right back. I agree with the others: this does sound as if the underlying dental infection caused the heart problems. I would try and find a specialist who can give you a second opinion. Hugs and good luck! Guest FoxHollowFarm
I know this is truly not relevant, but, I have a very old mare (horse) that had a bad tooth. It caused a lot of other medical problems. We could not send her into the equine hospital for dental surgery. It took two vets... we gave her some tranquilizers and started pulling. I know this sounds barbaric, but, the tooth had to come out. Within a week, her health dramatically improved. Here in the United States, we have the Ohio State University Animal Hospital. I wonder if you could e-mail them Gunda's records for a second opinion. They are amazing with Greyhounds. Good Luck.
Guest jerrybird
I've always been a fan of the beautiful Gunda and I'm sorry she's not feeling 100%. I can understand your trepidation regarding surgery. Perhaps your vet wants the infection gone before he would do the dentistry anyway? Guest Morgaynn
Anne, I am just seeing this and it breaks my heart that Gunda is not feeling well. I would tend to agree with the other posters that the infected (or abscessed) tooth may be the root of her ills and a second opinion would definitely be warranted. for you. I hope to hear that she is fully recovered soon! Shes such a sweet girl.
Guest Winterwish
Gunda's so pretty and I'm sorry she's having trouble with her tooth. Even if the swelling does go down tho' and she feels better, the infection may still be there and come back,so the second opinion does sound like a very good idea. It is scarey tho' not knowing what would be best that is for sure. Sending get well wishes out to Gunda.

Jackandgrey
Just to let you know that this is not just an animal thing. Infected teeth can cause heart disease in humans as well. I'm glad she's having a better day. AnneGTS
Thanks everyone! And I’m so glad I can say she is feeling a bit better! Still not a 100 per cent, but her face looks normal now, and sometimes she even wants to play with Tibbie. We don’t take her with us every walk. It’s now about 67 – 72 degrees and she loves the sun, but it’s a bit too hot for her.. She likes to lay down in the sun, but after 10 minutes she wants to go inside because it’s too hot. But anyway, she is feeling better now and that is what it’s all about. Quote Anne, Sasha & Tapas. duncan41
Gunda does make a beautiful bathing beauty! If it would be possible, taking her to a specialist before she gets sick again, might head off a serious situation. If she needs a tooth extracted, she will tolerate the procedure much better when she is well, rather than having an emergency procedure compromised by her other health issues. Prayers that Gunda stays healthy for a long, long time.
