Ya, ya, ya, I was told, "Bet you can't have just one."

You all were right. Beta needed someone that would actually play with him.

And these Sighthounds, they ARE addictive!

Here she is, our new mahogany brindle sweetheart....

Gryffyn's Aeyrie Come Dancing, a 7 month old Silken Windhound girlie girl.

My girlfriend has a silken windhound from a breeder out in Idaho or something along thhose

lines, and she adores her girly, she has a 2 yr old child and a newborn and she says that

her silken is so good with the kids, I think the silkens are gorgeous, and I actually went and met a breeder in the Poconos with Silkens but my son was allergic to them, he is fine with greyhounds and whippets ( which I have ) but the longer hair triggered his allergies

Congrats! She is lovely!!!

I think silkens are just beautiful. They have been doing lots of work with the breed, they still have a long way to go but that is one group of dedicated people!!!

Is this an 'actual' breed or a mix of other sighthound breeds?

If so, which ones?

She is LOVELY!

Are these 'exotic' & rare?

If one wanted to find one of these beauties, where would one look? :blush

They are an actual breed now...just like many other sighthounds they are not currently AKC.

In 1984, Francie Stull (Kristull Borzoi) acquired a pair of "long-haired Whippets", a breed which had been introduced in the 1970s. These two dogs became the foundation for the Silken Windhounds and several more dogs from the same kennel were acquired from the same kennel between 1984 and 1988. Later, two registered smooth coated Whippets and a small addition of Borzoi was added to the genetic mix. Several generations of the Silken Windhounds now exist.

The International Silken Windhound Society (ISWS) was formed in April 1999 and is the parent club for this exciting breed. A breed standard has been adopted and ISWS members strive to follow the standard within their breeding programs. ISWS members are currently working towards getting AKC recognition as their own breed, with the first step being inclusion in the Foundation Stud Service program.

Silkens also have been exported to Sweden and Finland where members are striving for the breed's recognition overseas.
