Getting Tired Of The Roller Coaster Ride

Recommended Posts

Yeah, this up and down with Buddy is really wearing me down. :( I can't imagine how he must feel.

He was doing so well, then the rimadyl (apparently) started upsetting his stomach; so on Wednesday we discontinued that. Started giving pepcid before meals. His appetite still hasn't rebounded to what it was when he was on the whole drug regimen of rimadyl, tramadol, gabapentin (well, at least before the rimadyl started giving him trouble).

Now the girls seem to be largely on strike against their kibble, too. What the heck? They pick off all the goodies and leave the kibble.

I cooked more chicken, hoping Buddy would eat more, he ate some of his breakfast but didn't even eat all the chicken. :(

Hopefully his trip to the holistic/acupuncture vet this week will yield favorable results.

I never did like roller coasters. Thanks for bearing with me; I just needed to vent.

Roller coaster rides are the worst!!! And they can really wear you down, no doubt about it.I've always considered myself a fairly strong person but the ride with Misty is wearing.

As for the eating, have you considered using the Nutritional Yeast? It really worked here and I know it's worked for others.

Just a thought. Hope things start turning around over there!!

My prev grey really couldn't tolerate rimadyl, get really SICK from it. But Metacam (meloxicam, dont know if the brand name is Metacam over there too?) was fine, and gave her the same effect as the rimadyl. Maybe worth trying to replace the rimadyl, and se if some of the downs are from not getting the effect the rimadyl gave before it started to upset the stomach?

Aww, poor Buddy. Hope :hope you can get him on something that will make him feel better.

As far as the girls go, are they sympathizing withi Buddy? I don't have that problem here, but you know how girls can be sometimes! ;)

I was going to suggest the deramax instead of rimydal and I was also going to suggest tripe.

You can buy it at www.sitstay.com

We always make sure we have a case in the garage, just in case.

I do sympathize about the not eating. I really do. Hope things start improving with Buddy soon.

We've had major appetite problems with one of our greys here too lately. But then not only he turned down the kibble, a couple months ago, but so did the other dog who was not having appetite/medical problems. That stumped me. Just to see, I bought a new bag of the same kibble, which they both proceeded to accept and eat.

I've since learned that even though we may have opened a bag sort of recently, it may still have "turned" due to how long it was in the warehouse and on the shelf at the store before we got it. Thinking of how your girls reacted, I wonder if this could be a factor -- for them at least, if not for the pup who seems to have lost his appetite.

We know all about that roller coaster in our house these days. You have our support and very best wishes in getting things cleared up.

The ride continues.... :(

Yesterday Buddy seemed to go downhill again. I called the vet (specialist) and they instructed me to increase his gabapentin to three times a day, and the tramadol from 100 mg. twice daily to 150 mg. twice daily. And they also said we definitely did NOT want to go back to the rimadyl. Because it was upsetting his stomach, they are in fear of it causing stomach ulcers/bleeding....the vet told me last week that they had a dog that was on it and they found it dead in its cage because of a ruptured intestine...so they are understandably wary of it.

Today I can tell Buddy is not feeling well. :( He is hanging his head, moving very slowly, and when he came in from outside his back end seemed to be sinking....and he was holding up one of his front paws--but that could've been due to the 6+inches of snow  and the 4 degree temps  . I did get him to eat some chicken liver brownies, and a sample packet of Fromm Salmon ala Veg. But he definitely doesn't feel well.

I am sorry. I know how frustrating and scary this is.
