Guest GreytsMom
Is blood work always necessary before a dental? What labs are recommended?
Guest KennelMom
We always have bloodwork done. Our vet just does whatever their inhouse blood panel is, unless there are some flags there and they need to delay surgery/dental and send it out. MarcR
Same here. My girls get blood work with their dentals - just a basic panel Quote Marc and Myun plus Starbuck (the cat)Pinky my AWOL girl, wherever you are, I miss you.Angels Honey (6/30/99-11/3/11) Nadia (5/11/99-6/4/12) Kara (6/5/99-7/17/12) Cleo (4/13/2000-4/19/2014) Antnee (12/1/2002=2/20/17)
Guest longdogs
It is not done routinely here. Angel got a checkup but no blood-tests before her dental.
GreyKarma
Pre-surgical blood work is always a good idea. It may pick up any problems in the liver and kidneys that need to filter the anesthesia. It is a sound medical protocol for the safety of our pets, same as it would be for us going under anesthesia. PatricksMom
I've always had it done--standard panel as long as it doesn't flag anything, plus thyroid here (monitoring thyroid condition). It's not a bad idea to do once a year anyway, which is how often I do dentals. Quote Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019).
