My Bear, Kidneys, Back End And Seizures

Bear will be ten in November. He has had lots of back issues for the last two years that we have been managing with acupuncture, which has helped him tremendously. He has been having these episodes that started off pretty mild where he would leap up after he had been laying down a while. We thought maybe one of his legs would fall asleep, as he seemed fine if he would just walk it off a little. But the episodes have gotten worse, and he seems to be loosing his balance, and they last longer. He had a bad one Monday morning and it lasted about 2 minutes... I had to hold him up the whole time. Of course we thought it was related to his back issues, but the vet is suspecting these episodes are seizures... He really didn't eat yesterday much at all. We got him to the vet last night and he has protein in his urine :( his blood work didn't look too bad, only one level was slightly elevated... I was so overwhelmed because I was thinking it was his back and now it is maybe seizures and his kidneys... We made the appointment for acupuncture as he is pretty sore and he didn't even get it... We go back to the vet Friday morning for a follow up and he will get his acupuncture then.

I would appreciate any prayers you guys can muster. I love this guy beyond words.

I just put him on my prayer list. In fact, I started crying when I saw his picture, as he is so handsome and sweet and should not be in pain.

God bless you both.

Oh boy, we had a greyhound with pretty much the same problems. We thought it was back issues and did acu. It didn't help because Tucker wound up having Lyme disease, glomerularnephritis, and vascular issues that caused seizure-like activity. (He had no back issues after all but it seemed like it for the longest time.

If Bear's got what Tucker had I can help you by telling you what we did wrong and what I'd do differently if I had a second chance. If Bear's got high blood pressure he'll need to take enalapril or something of that nature. Prayers from here too.

Sending prayers for your beautiful boy. Alan has similiar things going on - kidney disease, high blood pressure and rear leg weakness. Had acupuncture earlier this year, it helped for a while, he's starting to knuckle again and has strange leg "episodes" as I call them. He has had 2 mild seizures as well, that I know of.

Hoping that something helps your Bear.

Thanks everyone for your words, thoughts and prayers. We got Bear to eat a little today and we are giving him fluids (from a bag). I am just so worried about him... the vet gave him fluids last night and I was really hoping that he would be feeling a little better today. But at least he is eating a little. We will see what the vet says tomorrow. I am hoping that if he can get his acupuncture treatment that will help too. He always feels so much better after the treatments. Please keep those prayers coming.

Marcia, I'm so sorry to hear what you went through with your Tucker. :grouphug What is glomerularnephritis?

Bear has been tested numerous times for lyme disease... but I'm going to ask our vet again... I had intended to ask her specifically about what TBD we had tested him for and if we needed to do more testing... I just was so caught off guard last night, I wasn't really expecting all this... I can tell you I feel like a complete idiot that I didn't know these episodes were seizures... :headwall but its his kidneys and the not eating enough right now that we really need to focus on first...
